Yesterday we discovered local mulberries, …and now we might be obsessed! <no crimes were committed 👀>
Last week the posy I brought home from the garden had a chrysalis attached though I didn't notice till I got home. If you, like me, haven't watched a butterfly emerge you won't be prepared for how amazing or how long emergence takes #TinyJoys a 🧵

Our thanks to the numerous teams tackling the Holme Fen fire and to everyone who’s shown concern for this special site. Please share how important it is that any ignition source, from the smallest cigarette ember to portable bbqs and campfires are kept well away from our flammable dry peat soils!

Cities dismantled their tram networks to become “motor cities of the future”. The result? You could travel further within 30 mins via public transport in 1957 than you can in 2026. Cities are seeking billions to rebuild networks. Incredible piece of work this.
If you stood on Briggate at 8am on a weekday in 1957, and stood there again in 2026, in which year could you reach more of the city in half an hour? Samuel Bancroft has crunched the numbers. Since the 1950s, Leeds has got bigger - but the city has effectively shrunk.
Well this is going straight in my to-listen list. And just look at those gorgeous animated illustrations 💚 The perfect accidental find after a marvellous seminar day discussing Henges & Nature just down the road from the #ThornboroughHenges, as part of the #FestivalOfArchaeology
Rob Cowen’s evocative description of the Thornborough Henges, re-imagined by the artist Imogen Taylor in this lovely animation. Find out more in our latest episode here: pod.fo/e/44c958 @robcowen.bsky.social @johnnyflynnmusic.bsky.social

What an incredible opportunity for Nature & Culture! A big philanthropic donation (or several) maybe needed, but there are still 3months for the public to do their thing and help get The Wildlife Trusts towards their goal. @northwildlife.bsky.social 🦡
Just two months remaining for the Wildlife Trusts to raise, crumbs, over £12M to purchase the vast Rothbury Estate in Northumberland. They've raised 59% of the purchase price but have scarcely added to the pot in June. Needs one obscenely rich donor to pay off the (extremely rich) seller. 1/2

Actually want to amplify this further--95% haven't been digitized and even beyond that, archival CATALOGUING is its own patchy horrorshow of varying strategies, standards, and funding levels. To DIGITIZE something you have to FIND IT first!
📢 Once more for the people in the back: - Most [more than 95%] of archives have not been digitized. - Most of humanity's knowledge and memory is *not* reachable by LLMs. - Believing that AI can provid you with comprehensive, definitive, "intelligent" results is folly.

My son's school is closing at lunch time on Wednesday and Thursday. I'm sure many other schools across the south will be doing the same. It scares me that THIS is the most stable weather all of us will ever experience. It's only going to get worse, and we need a government who takes that seriously.
On Wednesday, Parliament will vote on the UK's 7th Carbon Budget, aligned with the scientific advice from the Climate Change Committee. Kemi Badenoch will lead her party in voting against it. The temperature in London on Wednesday:
