We've got to get back to the point where the truth matters if we're going to meet the steep challenges of a perilous future. Politicians, public officials, and others who knowingly lie to the public must be scorned if what's left of the American experiment is to endure.
Great thread here. AI makes writing cheap and easy for student and academic writers alike. However, for the graders and editors charged with verifying the originality and authenticity of the work it creates mountains of new labor. Kudos to everyone performing that labor--the truth matters!

Reckon 20ish had significant AI assistance. On top of hundreds of others recently I'm starting to see patterns. Are other editors are seeing the same or similar? 1/
It's just so Jim Crow 2.0 to argue that it's not racist to do something if any other causal factor could explain the action. Echoes a time when literacy tests, poll taxes, and the like disenfranchised people for allegedly non-racial reasons.

Watching a series of former Confederate states rush to eliminate any vestige of black representation in the House pretty much answers the question whether the Voting Rights Act was still necessary.
Criticizing govt policy ultimately helps make the nation stronger and is protected by the 1st Amendment. Implementing a former KGB agent's wildest fantasies as American national policy and then overseeing and greatly hastening the decline of American hegemony --- now, that's closer to treason.

Plus the gasoline tax is used to maintain our massive network of highways and roads. Less revenue means lousier roads. Like Oliver Wendall Holmes Jr. said "taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society."

FDR's leadership took down the Nazis while also fighting Japan (who had a helluva "warrior ethos"). These two bush leaguers, meanwhile, are getting thumped by Iran as they destroy American world leadership.

Great point here. I also remember all those years they policed everybody's morality. Claimed Clinton's shortcomings disqualified him as a leader and now their guy lies, cheats, and steals and they laugh and say principles, morals, & rules are for chumps.

Can't believe we're destroying cities and bombing large civilian populations for ___?????____ I don't know, confusing reasons at best. You can't really quantify it, but a lot of what made America great is that we believed in truth, shot straight, and tried to do the right thing. No longer true.
I think this thread is the best piece of African American History I've seen this Black History Month 2026. Thank you to the author for crafting it. The scope, analysis, and synthesis of the grand narrative of the African experience in American history is inspiring and extremely valuable.

I thought murder was a sin according to their myth. ("Thou shalt not kill") Oh wait, they don't really believe that. If there's one thing the MAGA era has shown, all their morality is really situational bs. I realized how full of it they were when DJT said "two" Corinthians and they still loved him.

It's so extremely hypocritical that we (the U.S.) have a huge arsenal of nuclear weapons and yet we get to tell other countries that can't have them and will be destroyed if they try to get them.

Great powers are great until they aren't any more. Lies, corruption, racism, and a lack of long-term vision weaken a country. Reality matters and ruling from some mythical fantasyland that never really existed is dangerous in the complex real world. Just saying.
Everybody who said Dumpf and the GOP would end the endless wars, just got played as fools. Congratulations, he used you like a bunch of lame, dim-witted marks. Of course it wasn't really about ending war--they're the ones who launched the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
An excellent critique of so much that is currently wrong in higher ed ...

it's fine to criticize the Democratic Party, as long as we remember that the main problem is the GOP and especially its MAGA base. I see so many leftist who seem obsessed with hating the Dems. We have to remember that, for better or worse, we have a 2-party system. Focus on defeating the bad one.
