This is the truth. When you tax ppl for building homes the primary winners are existing landlords who don’t have to compete against newer buildings.

And the comp plan is already paying dividends. Local developer Blueprint is proposing 4 mid sized units here in west seattle when they previously would have built 1 very large home + 2 very small homes. A win for density and a win for family sized attainable homes!
Matt Hutchins AIA@matthutchins.bsky.social · 9mo agoCity Council has passed Comp Plan and middle housing legislation and with a big summer push, it ends up being advantageous for new housing options in residential neighborhoods. It was a 4 years sustained marathon of advocacy to keep it from going totally off the rails. Congrats, Seattle!
Total game changer if this passes, will likely unlock thousands of homes that are now just vacant lots. “If passed, the policy would go into effect January 1, 2026.”
