Did not expect Coyote vs. Acme to be a film about the worthwhile pursuit of pushing back against big corporations even if you sometimes fail in the process, but it ruled!

I've followed id Software my whole life from Wolf 3d to The Dark Ages. They were foundational to modern gaming and id Tech has been an incredible engine both as a visual showcase and optimization. To see this happening to such a historic studio is just gut wrenching.

UPDATE: I've obtained a WARN notice filed in Texas that reveals 136 employees have been laid off at id Software (including remote workers), with another 22 people being ousted at Bethesda Game Studios' office in Austin. The overwhelming majority of those laid off were CWA union members.

Finally checked out this great arcade spot, Push Start Play. They have 400+ cabinets, 80+ pinball tables, and most importantly a well maintained Crazy Taxi sit down cab. Can't wait to come back!

Been feeling down this week and new action movie The Furious really was the perfect cathartic experience. Great choreography and fights. The villians deserve every bit of what they get. The final act of fights is really worth watching. Incredible stuff.

There's a good chance that the new Crazy Taxi will be revealed today at Summer Game Fest. I won't be able to catch it live, but definitely expect a stream later if it shows up.

Recently fulfilled a long time dream. My Dad introduced me to lots of pinball growing up, but the main one was Pokemon Pinball on GBC. We both kept playing it over the years until he passed from cholangiocarcinoma a few years ago. I can't think of a better first table to own than Pokemon Pinball.

Really enjoyed Hokum. Well written characters that can sus out a situation. The mystery, setting, and quasi puzzles all felt straight out of Silent Hill. Hoping this is the start of a great horror month with Obsession, Passenger, and Backrooms coming up.

Re-signaling this because the disclaimer understandably drowned out everything else: For Segagaga, the team did put out their tools alongside the patch, so if you have the means and will to try your hand at a wholly organic English patch of the game, here you go: github.com/ExxistanceDC...

Really appreciate this style of end of year list. I'd like to think I'm pretty in tune with most releases, but this shows how broad the medium is. Just played Many Nights a Whisper and it's such a gem. Succinct, impactful, and my time learning speedrun glitch setups in other games paid off here.

From indies like Blue Prince to big console exclusives like Donkey Kong Bananza, NPR staff members and contributors round up their favorite games of 2025. n.pr/3K8WaF5

Rental Family is a beautiful look at mental health and interpersonal relations in Japan, but Brendan Fraser playing All Japan Pro Wrestling on a Dreamcast in 2025 sealed it as my favorite movie so far this year.

That feeling when years of horror games have made you too hard boiled to be scared by haunted house actors so you just encourage them to scare the people in front of you and relish in some second hand screams.

Frankenstein is so gorgeously gothic. Easily the most visually interesting film this year. Del Toro just knows how to make an enjoyable monster movie.

Just got out of theater from Good Boy and the range of emotion seemingly coming out of this dog is unreal. The low camera angles and obscured human faces just work so well to center you in Indy's perspective. Such a unique watch!

Indy the golden retriever and star of the 2025 film Good Boy being charismatic as heck.

Explain your username: It's not actually "Chuckles". It's a combo of Chuck and Les named for my uncle and dad. Everyone read it as Chuckles and it fit so I just rolled with it. 825 was my BSA troop. Scouts gets a deserved bad rap, but that troop was wild. Great times with the nerds/hellraisers.

Metallama @ home@metallama.bsky.social · last yr.

Explain your username: I liked metal music (specifically prog metal at the time) and llamas (probably cuz I liked saying “llama” and The Emperor’s New Groove) growing up. Idk, pretty simple combo.

Weapons is a slow burn horror with some of the funniest moments in years. The best crowd experience I've had in a long time. This is the why I go to the theater.
