Kinda loved Shūji Teryama’s The Boxer (1977). Pretty funny that it really is just a straight-faced and straight-laced boxing drama without any swerves or collapses of diegetic delirium, but GOD the textures are so good and dank, even before Terayama‘s characteristic kaleidoscope starts working.
Unmistakably the work of a fan--I mean that as a compliment. Only an adoring devotee of ultra-violent comic books and stomach-churning splatter fests could've created this. Whatever its flaws, ROBOT NINJA is bursting w/ the passion of a dude making the sort of flick he himself would love to see.

I would say the bus fight from the first Transporter, but honestly, there’s no question, it’s this, the best fight scene from the best Jason Statham movie.

I admire the folks that run the Warner Archive Collection, especially when it comes to the animation home video releases. Truly folks that are in it for the love of the game.

just found out today that my former stepfather passed away last week (a couple months after my father in law also passed). Very difficult man, very fraught relationship with him over decades before he and my mother finally divorced. He was a walking Boston accent with a five pack a day voice.

Mythology, kaiju, Diana as the best of us. And the way Sherman draws Diana’s face, rounded instead of sharp, full of love instead of anger. Ah, a pleasure.

#Watched Zetsuosore Taikan Kimodameshi (aka very roughly A Spine-Chilling Test of Courage) (2014) - Four short experimental POV horrors from Shiraishi. My favorite was the second, a tour of sorts of a haunted asylum, which just about every spooky ever.

I’m glad folks warned me not to start my Shiraishi journey here, bc it would have ended here. I actually feel like a worse human being for having seen this, the very definition of torture porn. /1

And Daffy calling Nasty Canasta “Hom-burr” is the best.
