Los Angeles’ housing crisis has gone on far too long. Rents have skyrocketed, homes are overcrowded, and working families are being pushed out of the city every single day. We have a moral imperative to build, and to build now.

Housing scarcity rewards those who already own. As supply was constrained relative to demand, more of that demand was capitalized into existing home and land values. Incumbent owners gained wealth, while renters and later buyers faced a much higher cost of entry.

Stop preemptively negotiating against yourself. The process of passing the bill will whittle it down. Why started with a whittled down product?

Allowing government regulation to keep a basic necessity artificially scarce, when the resulting harms are foreseeable and avoidable, is a systemic injustice on a massive scale.

We will and should keep improving safety with $ best spent where exposure and fatalities are highest per capita but remember we’re treating symptoms and that much of the money spent is subsidizing home equity scarcity growth and poor regulatory land use choices
