In a world where we need the ability to defend ourselves and our allies from bullying hegemons and rogue nations, underfunding our military is one way to become a vassal and have no friends willing to come to our aid. Avi Lewis, once again showing that he is a naive fool and unfit for leadership.

Lewis: "What is the major threat to Canada's security today? It is the US. I don't think there's a way to prevent US military incursion in Canada. So don't use our fear of the US to just create a whole new military industrial complex ... I'm for rebooting the whole conversation."Avi Lewis on military spending: "It's my view that we shouldn't be spending 2% of our economy on the military, let alone 5% ... It's about $11-12B a year for full pharmacare for everyone. So we are talking about the better part of a decade of free medicine for every person in this country instead of these 12 subs."

$44,000 oops. "As the Ford government weathers an expense scandal, the premier invited reporters to look into his expenses, saying he’s the “only premier in the history of this province that has a zero expense account.” “I have zero expenses,” Ford said during an unrelated news conference" #OnPoli

Over his eight years in office, Premier Doug Ford has billed Ontario taxpayers more than $44,000 in airfare, hotels and meals, despite recently claiming that he has “zero” public expenses, @RichardCityNews reports. #OnPoli toronto.citynews.ca/2026/07/28/p...

All over the transit industry, zero-emission bus mandates, like those of California, are colliding with Buy America requirements that deny US transit agencies access to a competitive bus market. The result is a wave of lousy buses that are impacting service. 1/ nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/07/27/b...

One small trick to not look like an authoritarian, plutocratic loon, or worse: don’t advocate for taking votes away from people or distributing them unequally.

Huge congratulations to Professor Jacob Tsimerman of the University of Toronto on receiving the Fields Medal — one of the highest honours in mathematics. Nearly a century after Canadian mathematician J.C. Fields established this award in Toronto, it comes home.

Is it too late to revoke his citizenship and send this Nazi back to Germany? Shopify should justifiably be the most hated company in the country. Votes for only rich property owners, like England…in 1430. And no votes for seniors.

This article makes it sound like we would be a pariah if we did this but given how untrustworthy the US has become, developing them in secret with Germany, Japan and other NATO allies outside of US control might be worth it as a deterrent for ourselves and allies. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

Irritating to see the Toronto island airport battle framed as NIMBYism. This was a project with zero business case that would have destroyed economic value and soft power – and stopped homebuilding! It was a terrible project that deserved to die. When people say no, sometimes they are correct.

A difficult balancing act given how unpredictable and unstable the POTUS is. Best to do the work in secret, whether it is building coalitions and trade agreements with other countries, investment deals or defense pacts -- building leverage + strategy. We shouldn't foretell our next moves.

Most Canadians understand that the game our PM is playing with Donald Trump, and the need to for some strategic deception (and debasement). But their patience for it depends on his willingness to be honest with them -- and it might be running out. #cdnpoli www.nationalobserver.com/2026/07/24/o...
