I enjoyed visiting Tortworth and Charfield on Friday as part of my summer tour. This week I will be heading to Marshfield, Hinton, Easter Compton, Wickwar, Acton Turville and the Bristol Zoo Project amongst others. To find out more, call my office: 0207 219 3000

It was great to see up close the progress being made on Charfield’s new railway station. I also was updated on exciting plans for a traffic-free ‘greenway’ which will link the station with local communities, providing a safe walking, wheeling and cycling route.

Congratulations to Yate Town Council which has been awarded the Bees' Needs Champion Award 2026 in recognition of its work supporting pollinators. HMP Eastwoood Park also received the award for a third time; staff and prisoners have worked very hard to make a wonderful bee friendly garden.

Many schools in our area closed over the recent heatwave. This was partly due to the fact we are unprepared for such hot summers. The Government needs to invest into proper air conditioning and more cool green space. I made the case to the Minister in a recent chamber exchange.

Lib Dem MP Gideon Amos mentioned my attempts to stop the practice of ‘fleecehold’ in new build estates, as part of a wider debate on leasehold rights. Earlier this year the minister gave a commitment that this issue would be fixed in this parliament; it’s not in the current bill

The amount of energy needed for data centres to run properly is an emerging problem as the use of AI becomes more widespread. I attended a meeting on this as part of Net Zero Week in Parliament. It’s clear we need to move fast on this issue.

In South Glos, the Lib Dems made sure local people could have their say at planning committee, reversing Conservative changes. Today I voted against Labour's plans to force more planning decisions to bypass planning committees, taking away local people's voice.

Nigel Farage has spent his whole life dodging responsibility for his actions. This new stunt is his latest attempt to escape consequences for his biggest grift. We won’t let him.

Thank you to the members of South Glos Youth Partnership I met in Yate. Youth work is under appreciated and underfunded, and yet it is essential for early interventions that can avoid problems later on for young people. I will push for better funding for the services they provide.

The Amos report confirms our worst fears: maternity services in England are fundamentally broken, and the cost of political neglect is being paid in trauma, injury, and lost lives. The recommendations must be implemented in full and without delay.

The roads minister has written to me in response to my letter raising my concerns over more delays for the M49 'ghost junction'. He told me a lot about the past and present situation, but not much about what is going to happen going forward.
