Arizona's AI data center boom is cauasing rates to go up. APS (and TEP has the same number) wants regulators to approve a 45% rate hike for data centers and ~14.5% for households with a ruling expected right around Election Day, locking in rates for years. 🧵

Arizona lawmakers, show your work on lowering our APS bills | Opinion

Every candidate promises to lower your APS bill. The Arizona Corporation Commission is deciding a huge rate case. Demand specifics, not promises.

Elon Musk’s Memphis Takeover — The Marvels And Messiness Of SpaceX’s AI Buildout

Elon Musk's xAI, now known as SpaceXAI following a merger with SpaceX, has made the Memphis, Tennessee area the center of its AI ambitions. XAI is building three data centers there, as well as a power plant in Southaven, Mississippi. XAI's AI infrastructure there truly deserves its name Colossus. It's a modern marvel that was built with breakneck speed. Anthropic and Google are now renting compute capacity at the data centers in a deals worth billions of dollars. But some say the buildout has been chaotic. XAI is now facing multiple lawsuits accusing the company of using loud, pollution-emitting gas turbines, some without the required Clean Air Act permits. CNBC traveled to Memphis and Southaven to speak with locals to learn why the data centers are such a flashpoint, to find out why backlash against data centers is spreading nationwide, and to learn what hyperscalers can do to win support as they race to build AI infrastructure. Congratulations to Climate Cabinet-endorsed candidate, Anita Gonzales, for winning her primary! With this win, Anita has shown that voters will back clean energy champions who fight to lower families’ bills.

@spears.bsky.social in @thehill.com: Don't sleep on the power of state & local officials to get constituents off the fossil fuel roller coaster. They largely determine our electricity mix, public transit access & housing options. Smart policy in these 3 areas shields ppl from insecure fossil fuels.

State and local policymakers can lead us through Iran’s energy reckoning

State and local leaders have an opportunity to protect their constituents from fossil fuel price shocks by investing in electric vehicles, public transportation, and walkable, affordable housing.

Climate disasters continue to destabilize insurance markets & raise costs for families. The climate crisis is an affordability crisis. Thankfully, CO lawmakers funded a new roof fortification program that builds off other successful models. This bill will promote climate resilience & lower premiums.

“We literally don’t have a full and comprehensive system for monitoring insurance market data. There’s so much salience on this issue that [insurance] departments of various ideological leanings are at least finding data collection to be in their interests.” @jordanhaedtler.bsky.social

States are demanding property insurance records to study climate change

An unprecedented nationwide data collection will show where storms and wildfires are causing large insurer losses and rate hikes.
