I had my best birding in July at the local wetlands -- early in the month I saw young Pied-billed Grebes & Hooded Mergansers, then 2 Green Herons, a surprise Double-crested Cormorant one morning, the Lesser Goldfinches all month, & ended July with a Belted Kingfisher. #BirdOfTheDay #BestOfJuly

A Belted Kingfisher perched at the tip of a dead branch with its back to camera and its head in profile to the right. The morning sunlight is striking the bird and some foliage in the background. The background is mostly shadow with some dappled light.
