This is horrible news. I don't think I could conduct my fieldwork or finish my dissertation without the DDRIG. This would also eliminate one of the very few funding opportunities accessible to international students, making their already-terrible situations worse.

It's clear to me now that many really don't care about sociology as a discipline, but are simply using the moment to express their grievance and resentment toward the journals and departments that rejected them. Funny that this is the same group of people who are against "grievance studies."

I'm checking the ASA conference program now, and so many panels I want to attend are at the same time 😩

I tried so hard to be sympathetic to the conservative wing of sociology, but what on earth is requiring all faculty to take the GRE and firing those with lower scores supposed to achieve?

Found a random classification gap: the “Research Article” category for CHI only appears after 2008. Before that, papers were labeled simply as “articles,” which isn’t included in the ACM Digital Library’s “content type” filter. So if you rely on that filter (like me), you may miss a lot of papers.

I used Claude for some small computational text analysis tasks, and it performed better than expected. Maybe I’m not an expert in CSS, so I can’t judge it very well, but it feels like it did a better job there than when using Claude for qualitative analysis, where it feels quite rigid
