I remember when it was exceedingly difficult to even get coverage of Israeli assassinations, even when victims are American citizens, but Palestinian. It is still difficult but it gives me some sliver of hope that we are toppling the censorship that Sayfollah's father can author of his own grief.

(There was near unanimous booing when the captain announced this)

I’ll keep saying this until I can’t: I can’t think of a demographic whose vote is more critical than those who are ward of the government being elected. And no citizen should ever be stripped of their vote. This is the greatest lever for accountability and reasoned legislation I can think of.

But in reality, logistical hurdles abound, & prisoners have organized hard for years to make sure everyone knows their rights. I learned a lot from this amazing reporting.

The main thing I think at least is accepting that you have no basis to be “proud“ or feel more ”deserving“ for being born in a rich country than a poorer one. But honestly I think many many Europeans don’t internalise even that much.
Borders are an injustice, pure lottery of birth. Wealth inequality between the EU and right outside it is staggering and unfair. Our Frontex to Libyan navy deals are disgusting. If EU countries abolished borders most of the continent would become Mussolini. I don’t know what to do about it tbh.
