Food, buildings and idiosyncratic left opinions. He/him. East London gay. Dysgwr Cymraeg.
Even the kinds of journalism that isn’t about propping up the ruling class - the trade press, say - is fundamentally flawed because it splits off knowing about things - as a practitioner would - from writing about them. So even articles about technical matters are full of shit.
It’s good that Rod Liddel is dead, but what about all the editors who chose to give him a platform?
Everyone who has ever been on Radio 4 needs to be [redacted].
Sad to see people posting on social media negatively about Rod Liddle, who died yesterday. If I have disagreed with you very strongly in life - and you die - I hope I'll be either silent, or kind.
Image search "skeleton panda sea squirt". Go on, you know you want to.
Modernity is the process of replacing human and animal labour with energy (which has mostly come from fossil fuels), by using machines. We can have much more clothing if it’s mass produced, than if you have to weave the cloth on a hand loom yourself.
I think my most genuinely unpopular take is that a widely held and genuine consumer preference for cheaper, lower-quality goods, not private equity, is driving the decline in quality of consumer goods like clothing and housewares.
The only change to UK building regs after Covid was to require the tiny little trickle vents - proven not to provide enough ventilation even to prevent mould, let alone airborne disease spread - in commercial buildings. They could have mandated proper ventilation but didn’t.
A smaller thing that irritated me about COVID was seeing all the screens and table wiping in buildings with no ventilation, from otherwise smart people, a good 12 months after we knew airflow was key.
My mother was telling the tale of when a photographer came to the door offering to take photos of her children. “No thank you” she told him. “But could you take some of my dog?”
If you want to stare into the raw, unfiltered darkness at the heart of the Isræli genocide machine, just hand a microphone to a "Settler" for 30 seconds.

I would not let my children graffiti the beach. Terrible lesson to teach them, that trashing natural places is OK.
I get the impression that Mancunians generally like their dramatic new skyline. It looks exciting and futuristic. I wonder if Zack’s NIMBYish moaning about it played into the Greens defeat there.
Saw lots of crashes on the M4. Also saw lots of people looking at their phones instead of the road.
Charities prop up the system. They provide chushy jobs for middle class people who feel commerce is beneath them, while occupying the position where an actually useful organisation might go.
Amnesty International has expressed its 'regret' over a report naming dozens of gender-critical campaign groups as 'anti-rights' organisations
The jam I made from the foraged blackberries tastes amazing.
A bumper harvest of blackberries from up the Lea valley.
I’m heading here today to stay with my parents. My mum would not be happy about a load of Telegraph readers moving there though.
A Welsh harbour town has been ranked among Britain's 'loveliest' harbour towns, as it is said to be going through a "renaissance"
MAGA Make Awnings Great Again Grade II* listed country house in Buckinghamshire. Awnings added in 2024
You can tell you’re in a fancy part of Tower Hamlets when the broken glass you cycle through is wine glasses instead of random bottles.
My husband got called a faggot on the bus in Newham by a bunch of teenagers. It’s putting him off going back to the ceramics studio there. Bumpkin pricks.
“Don’t worry!” I reassure the journalists as I empty their bank accounts. “Money is just a social construct!”
I went to a Church in Wales primary school for a couple of years. It had terrible vibes. Really authoritarian generally, even aside from them being really cross at you if you said you weren't a christian.
A further religious group has opposed a council’s plan to redesignate a faith primary school as a nonreligious community school
Will successive heatwaves ever dampen British architects' enthusiasm for great expanses of unshaded glazing? (No. They mostly think building physics is nerd shit that gets in the way of their very generic 'vision'.) www.dezeen.com/2026/07/10/f...
Formwork Architects transforms care home into light-filled house
Formwork Architects has transformed a derelict care home in north London into Crouch End House, a family dwelling with a sunken patio.

Just remembered some nimbys in, I think Leicestershire, saying a proposed new reservoir “wasn’t necessary”.
Explaining to the joggers in the park that they could go much faster with a lot less effort if they were to buy a bicycle.
The most pregnant woman ever just walked past the shop. She looks like she's going to give birth to a Toyota Yaris.
The LBR is normally better than this, but this seems like the kind of anti-knowledge you get in the rest of the media. You understand more if you don’t listen to it. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/t...
