I make cool (?) things for the internet, and sometimes finish them (unlikely)
I know that the extremely cool people making things with ATProto aren’t usually included in the groups of hate-brigades going out towards open source maintainers on this platform, but it sure makes it hard to say “I’m using ATProto, the protocol for Bluesky” without biting my tongue.
this wave of AI has legitimately killed a huge part of what I loved about seeing stuff online, what I loved about being an educator, and what I loved about sharing my own work I just don't feel like doing it anymore
Don't want to speak on behalf of anybody but myself, but this attitude of "you have to accept my AI usage as equal and identical your non-AI usage" is precisely what kills the enthusiasm. If every opinion or preference I express gets invalidated, why on earth would I want to stay in that community.

I graduated last year from a CS program with the belief that I’d have a job I found fun, exciting, and meaningful. I’m still unemployed because the job I went to school for is dead. Unless I drink the AI Kool-aid, I guess I’ll be working some dead-end job, with a hobby my family spent $10k to have.

The apidays NYC schedule, a conference initially forged to discuss the creation of APIs, and it's basically impossible to find a talk that isn't "Here's how to leverage AI to ..." or "Making ... AI accessible" I genuinely don't get how people aren't tired of this yet.
