We won! Cohasset Punch took home “Most Creative Cocktail” at last night’s “Pour Your Heart Out” Anti-Cruelty fundraiser for “Herbie’s Hurricane,” a frozen blend of Cohasset Punch, Chicago Cane Co-op overproof rum, pineapple, orange, lime, passionfruit, and hibiscus.

It’s almost mesmerizing watching those Cohasset Punch bottles make their way down the line, don’t you think? Another batch of the good stuff is in the books — many thanks to the team at Catalyst Distilling for making it happen!

Happy National Rum Day! We’ve got a new video with a brief history of Medford Rum — used in the first batches of Cohasset Punch in the 1890s — but Bluesky keeps giving me an upload error (check our other channels for the fun rum facts).

Bonfort’s Wine & Spirit Circular was America’s leading liquor trade journal from 1871-1919, and #OnThisDay in 1902 published a definitive account of the popularity explosion Cohasset Punch enjoyed in its earliest days in Gilded Age Chicago.

A little extra flavor for your heat-dome-appropriate Cohasset Slushie, with tea, cherry juice, and peach purée. We’ve also got wildfire smoke in Chicago today, so maybe a Lapsang Souchong is the appropriate tea choice here.

Here’s a Cohasset cocktail that’s not to be missed — Sparrow in Chicago’s Gold Coast riff on the 1930s ”Savoy Tango” mixes equal parts sloe gin, Cohasset Punch, and an aged Mexican cane juice rum finished in red wine casks. Rich, vinous, and a little smoky!

We’re celebrating our neighbors of all backgrounds this 4th, especially those who—past and present—work tirelessly to make this country a better place. Let’s raise a glass of this fun “All-American Punch,” adapted from a 1946 recipe. Cheers to you, America!

@maud.bsky.social I have alerts for "Cohasset Punch," (now that we've revived the bottled version), and found this decade-plus old tweet. Normally I wouldn't be creepy about it, but I feel like it's my duty to inform you the bar in question, Sparrow, now DOES serve Cohasset Punch. You did it!

A 2015 quote tweet of an old Chicagoist article about the opening of Sparrow (a rum bar in Gold Coast), lamenting "no cohasset punch, what's even the point"

The Cohasset Punch revival would absolutely not be a success without our fans in the LGBTQ+ community — both our customers and our friends in the service industry. Happy Pride, Chicago — Cheers! 🌈🥃

Cohasset Punch has been around since the 1890s, but there really aren’t that many vintage cocktail recipes that call for it. Imagine my delight finding this (award-winning!) Cohasset Punch ice cream drink from 1979!

#NationalBourbonDay seems like a good time to remind everyone that Cohasset Punch makes an excellent sub for your sweet vermouth in a Manhattan. (I prefer it in a 1:1 proportion instead of the standard 2:1 to suit the higher ABV and lower sweetness of the Cohasset Punch relative to vermouth.)

Today would be Carl Ladner’s 149th Birthday, without whom there would likely be no Cohasset Punch. Though he didn’t create it, he successfully brought the brand back after Prohibition and installed the famous neon “Home of Cohasset Punch” sign on Madison St. which was a local landmark for decades.

Sad about Schlitz beer being discontinued. Here’s a 1966 photo of Madison St. at Wells in Chicago, a Schlitz sign behind the landmark Cohasset Punch bar (courtesy David Sadowski/The Trolley Dodger). Cohasset Punch got revived; maybe Schlitz can be too—but hopefully it won’t also take 40 years.

This weekend’s Cubs / White Sox matchup inspires the question: is Chicago’s classic Cohasset Punch a North Side or a South Side drink? You’ll be relieved (or annoyed) to find out that it’s technically neither!
