The Avengers Doomsday approach apparently speed running Marvel Comics longheld fascination with "Back to Basics" got me thinking how historically this approach almost never resonates long term. Exceptions would be early 2000s Astonishing X-Men and Waid/Wieringo Fantastic Four.

Reasons I like Caleb Williams as Iceman 1) Cold 2) Underrated 3) So much potential 4) There's a weird obsession on Insta with Caleb being closeted and Bendis will probably have Jean Grey out him sometime around the Super Bowl but good for him that's my QB1

I see The Beat is getting hammered for running w/ Mike Deodato's denial that he used AI significantly in a recent comics project My main takeaway is empathy for an un/barely paid writer badly prepared to call B.S. on a professional artist. I've been there. You're not expecting the need to Woodward.

Man, this is a great list and really emphasizes what a great year this has been for comics, despite the many, MANY ways the world is finding ways to destroy us. And selfishly, YAY RED SHIRTS. But also, man, so of many of my friends are on here with richly deserved kudos.

I must admit I almost passed this up, for some reason I missed on the first pass that this is the guy who drew 20th Century Men … and, friends. this looks good. this looks so good. it’s got ambition. you probably want to mosey down to the store to get this yourself post haste.

Our Soot Stained Heart #1, cover by Stipan Morian. Our our heroine holding a sword in the snow. Nice! Our Soot Stained Heart #1, by Joni Hägg and Stipan Morian. Opening spread of a packed city, rail station in the foreground. Profound stuff. Our Soot Stained Heart #1, by Joni Hägg and Stipan Morian. Our heroine smokes a pipe, an adorable Tove Jansson reference unless I’m mistaken. Our Soot Stained Heart #1, by Joni Hägg and Stipan Morian. Another double page spread, of a train hurtling into the background of a snowy wasteland.

It occurred to me for the first time since I interviewed him this year about his "Big Comeback" to see if Donny Cates ever announced anything this year... And there's no announcement but instead I got sucked into an absolute rumor mill tornado
