Exploring (and demystifying) moral philosophy and ethics through comic book stories. PhD in neuroscience. https://comicphilosophy.com/ 🇨🇦 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️Ally 📵NoAI

Good overview of this event, although I would have ranked it higher in my personal pantheon. I did a full analysis of the Progenitor's judgment system, if anyone is curious about the ethics of Gillen's event: comicphilosophy.com/7do2

#EventsDearBoy 21. A.X.E.: JUDGMENT DAY (Marvel, 2022) The chief Eternal starts a war of choice with mutant homeland Krakoa to shore up a fragile political position; Tony Stark decides to stop it by building a God. Things get philosophical. This should probably not be your first ever Big 2 event.

An absolutely fascinating reframing of my recent Image series SLEEP (now collected in hardcover and TPB) that names and weighs the various moral philosophies at play in both the protagonist's and the townsfolk's actions. A very cool analysis of something I only meant to be a ripping yarn!

Sleep by @zandercannon.bsky.social is more than just a compelling, inventive comics take on the classic Werewolf or Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde gothic horror comicphilosophy.com/e3a6 It presents a normative ethics problem along the lines of the zero-sum, no-win scenario of the Trolley problem. But ...1/2

Very good read on how best to revitalize Doctor Who. At the risk of over-simplifying, largely boils down to restarting as Nu Who did, but making sure to include some classic elements. As a fan of the show during both time periods (my adolescence and middle-age), that has the right ring to me.

Doctor Who is going away... but I have faith it'll come back to save us all once more. My latest newsletter has my woolly thoughts about how the next head writer should go about making Doctor Who brand new all over again: buttondown.com/charliejane/... Let the arguing commence!

Great read on GenAI from Amnesty International, taking a supply chain lens and focusing on how current data harvesting practices violate international human rights law. None of this was inevitable - certainly not the design choices made by the current general GenAI companies.

So we’ve been cooking up some thoughts on Gen AI at @amnesty.org and I’m ecstatic to finally see it out in the world! Our 🗝️ conclusion: standalone gen AI systems, built on unlawful web scraping, constitute mass invasions of privacy by design & should be prohibited www.amnesty.org/en/latest/ne...

Pablo (pabloalcaldef.wordpress.com) has had a little fun with my request to draw comicphilosophy.com characters relaxing at the local comics store. Can you figure out what they are all reading? My guesses follow ... 1/2

Pablo Alcalde pabloalcaldef.wordpress.com has done it again! I wanted an image showing my comicphilosophy.com cast of characters enjoying new comic book day, and Pablo nailed it as always. I love how he drew Thomas Aquinas with a think tome, but Conficius clearly enjoys a good floppy. 😆
