This is the first time I’ve seen an article referring to shotguns loaded with bird shot as “pellet guns.” Usually, when people talk about pellet guns they are referring to the much, much less deadly airsoft guns. Seems like the BBC is making this behavior seem less egregious with this word choice.

My Apple Watch keeps trying to call emergency services every 5-10 seconds and won’t stop. Been 5 years of it being central to my personal fitness and activity but I am in no mood to give Apple any money. Guess it’s the end of the road

I just bought my first pair of reading glasses. The decline continues unabated.

It’s weird that if you need glasses you see something 5 feet away from you you need a doctor appointment, a prescription, and lenses measured to your pupils. If you need glasses to read something 2 feet away you can just grab whatever feels right off a rack in the back of an Aldi.

Some things here in Portugal are so different than my experience in the states. My daughter’s handball league has all participants do a medical exam annually. They brought in a doctor to do the exams and assigned the players time to come in. She got a full exam, inc. an ECG for less than 15 dollars.

We’re in the last day of a family holiday to Porto. It’s been a lovely time. We had great fun, exceptional food, lots of interesting cultural exploration. Kinda wish we hadn’t spent quite as much money though as the kids highlight from the trip was that I let them have the tiniest sip of Super Bock.

Doing a long weekend in Porto. It’s been an exceptional time. Amazing food, beautiful buildings everywhere, charming and friendly people abound. The one meh part was Livaria Lello which was nice but I definitely got my wallet inspected in exchange to see some (admittedly) cool stairs.

I really wish there was a decent app for learning European Portuguese. All the decent language apps focus on Brazilian PT which isn’t helping me at all here. The main app for Euro PT is called Practice Portuguese and it sucks so hard. You spend 22 euros a month for an app that’s a constant pinwheel.

Well I managed to live in Portugal for 10 months before I finally got a francesinha. It was very tasty but between the sandwich and the lunch beer, I could really use a nap.
