Like if there aren't any guard rails on a government issued space craft then you have to wonder what's going on in the meat packing industry in the Star Wars universe.

Or, and hear me out, just use the one wierd trick of putting mass transit funding/subsidies back into fed trasnpo priorities and let local agencies lower the prices to sustainable levels. EVERY transit manager knows that cheaper = more ridership = fewer cars, they just need to make the $ pencil out.
Jesus Christ, Dems, get your shit together. The slopulism is out of control.
Our politics and society are going through a phase-change and inflexible people are not going to be able to adapt. That said. per @dandrezner.bsky.social Trump will leave no permanent mark, other than what he's destroyed. It will be up to others to build new structures in the new political realm.
We find that the benefits of moderation found in earlier eras (~1980s-2000s) are gone. Why? Many likely explanations.
Get mad at people for trying a thing that those people say will require other things to actually work. Don’t provide other things. Then get mad at the people for failing, trusting that voters always blame the people who did the thing and don’t factor in broader context Rinse repeat, lazy journalists
It was inevitable that reactionary centrists would turn against harm reduction and call for a return to mass incarceration

UEFA and Concacaf unanimously stating for the record that keeping the corruption and money-skimming in house is a hill they will die on.
NEW: Concacaf joins UEFA in rejecting FFE, instead imploring FIFA to find ways to increase funding for FIFA Forward through its current means and asking that "any matter follows the proper governance processes" in future full statement: www.concacaf.com/competitions...
Pounds the table, jumps up and down screaming "This, THIS!" I don't know why the distributors and venues are not on board with this, selling concessions is a big part of the revenue stream. This would sell more concessions.
OK. Here are my thoughts after seeing The Odyssey: Movies should have intermissions, like they used to. Then you could change reels and maybe give a big epic movie some breathing room. And in conclusion, we need more Sinon and Les Wynan.
Oh Daily Mail, bless your hearts. "Woke Portland Mayor"
Woke Portland mayor accused of demeaning insult to Abraham Lincoln
Furious Portlanders have urged Mayor Keith Wilson to intervene in the city's plans for a new statue or Abraham Lincoln after it was toppled over in 2020 following the death of George Floyd.

Climate policy isn't going away because Washington stopped talking about it. Americans are already paying the price through fires, floods, heat, and rising costs. Our new collection asks a different question: what should the next agenda for climate look like post-DOGE and the rollback of the IRA? 🧵

let's have a whip around. i can chip in a tenner.
From @theathleticfc.bsky.social: FIFA has announced plans to sell a large minority stake in the World Cup. Under the plan, FIFA’s total development funding would top $10 billion over the next four years. Unsurprisingly, the idea is the brainchild of FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

Quick! Let's hook a dynamo up to Mike Wallace spinning in his grave. We can power a couple of data centers off that.
Scoop: I’m told that Ross Douthat is exiting The NYT and is expected to take a role at “60 Minutes.” News expected to be announced soon.
I am surely not the only one who is bored with endless rehashes of the Western canon. I would consume the ever-loving hell out of new stories from African and Indigenous traditions. Novelty sells! If they've been handed down for 100s of generations, they're good stories!
I was reluctant to weigh in on the racial discourse about Lupita Nyong'o as Helen of Troy. But finally I did. Here's why I don't think we *NEED* to have a Black Helen of Troy when Black/African cultures have so many other strong, beautiful heroines. open.substack.com/pub/karenatt...

Ah, memories. Turns out monoculture has some benefits. Widely shared (if not followed) norms and formulas for doing things. I don’t think any literate under 40-50 found anything objectionable. Standard fare for say the NYRB or WaPost c. 1990.
I’ve been thinking a lot about how we’re losing recipes re: criticism. Even reviews of Morrison’s novels in the 90s that were ultimately positive would include barbs that I think would shock people today. A lot going on there, but popular criticism used to be just as tough as Emily’s review.
This and veing able to articulate policy preferences that are broadly popular. Defined as "classical" liberal/New Deal policies that neolib establishment Dems have given up on. Fight + popular policy = win. It's that fuckin simple.
but this really is, I think, the driving force behind the DSA's success (that and having one of the most charismatic politicians of my entire lifetime in Mamdani) - it's not that voters are more lefty now, but that the DSA candidates are credibly signaling 'fight' in a way their opponents are not

Engrave this over the entrance to the Pentagon.
"You may fly over a nation forever, you may bomb it, atomize it, pulverize it and wipe it clean of life. But if you desire to defend it, if you desire to protect it, if you desire to keep it for civilization, you must do this on the ground the way the Roman legions did . . . in the mud."
