One of my absolute favourite parts of my job is seeing students succeed. Huge congratulations to @conornally.bsky.social who celebrated his PhD graduation on Saturday & whose final thesis paper is on arXiv today: arxiv.org/abs/2607.11682 🎓 The science behind our #JWST press image 👇🧵 🔭🧪
I've put together a poster design showing the positions of lighthouses around the Scottish coastline. A handful were omitted for clarity or because they have been deactivated. But the distribution of construction dates I find really interesting. #datavisualisation #scotland #lighthouses #noai
By now, in the development of the lighthouse keeper, there are so many possibilities that he can choose to get up to, that i have completely forgotten many of them. It's often a total surprise to me now He seems like a proper living and breathing being now
It's a bluebird day. The lighthouse keeper tries to fix some split roof tiles, damaged by the storm.
Met this wee guy out and about today. Not sure if he was friendly, didnt shake his hand to find out #freediving #jellyfish #snorkel
Spent a while this evening trying to haul a sheep back up the side of this cliff, while trying not to fall off it myself Rather precarious and she wasn't all that cooperative or appreciative of my efforts I wonder if this is part of traditional transhumance farming practices?
At long last, having put countless hours in traipsing up and down cold windy beaches all winter, I finally found a sea bean! This little grey nickarnut has travelled all the way across the atlantic from the caribbean to the western isles in scotland. #beachcombing
The lighthouse keeper forgot to write in his journal today, because the clocks changed last night and the entry generation cronjob triggers at an hour that did not happen...
A gannet outside the window wakes the lighthouse keeper. He stays inside.
The lighthouse keeper wakes up with a positive mindset. The sun reflects off the water. He goes down to the beach to swim in the shallows, the water is bracing.
not much to show for months of roguelikedeving, a little bit out of my depth with developing the back end of this engine. but, viewport panels are now constructed from data config files, and it finally looks like a game screen. Maybe I will finally commit to actually putting something on it!
A shieling in the western isles. Folk lived in these in the hills for thousands of years up till about 300 or so years ago. They're everywhere here, I think they're really quite magical #scotland #southuist #shielings
the lighthouse keeper received a long overdue update this morning. many new entry possibilities will be generated from tomorrow #procgen #textgeneration #lighthouse #NOAI
The lighthouse keeper sleeps soundly, dreaming of pollocks. Outside, a meteor shower sends tiny lights streaking across the sky.
can someone do me a solid.. its been like this all day: conornally.itch.io/diabaig #diabaig #roguelikedev #indiegamedev
This is the first game I ever made; it has been sitting in my dev folder for nearly a decade. I figured it was time to publish Off-Piste, a simple arcade game about carving down a hill, avoiding obstacles and outpacing an avalanche #indiegamedev #arcade #retro #skiing conornally.itch.io/off-piste

entities finally have some (limited) decision-making power goal->decision->intent->action there are fine-grained variable action costs and inherent entity speed. So, walking on rough terrain or uphill will take longer, but a faster entity will act more frequently #roguelikdev #screenshotsaturday
The lighthouse keeper rows the boat out to watch the otters. He brings a book of poems.
Delve 0.5.0 is up at danarama.itch.io/delve My silly little hobby project got some cool new stuff. There are new dungeons and you can actually win it! This is still an early and incomplete game but I'm content with my progress so far! Avaiable for mac, win, linux! #delve #roguelike #roguelikedev

continent labelling this might be a "fix it in post" kind of solution, but im trying to remove/differentiate the inland water bodies, which are currently treated no differently than the sea #procgen #terraingeneration #gamedev
procedural beach formation and tide cycles its far from a perfect generation algorithm but i think it sells the idea more or less #screenshotsaturday #procgen #gamedev
procedural formation of beaches around an island, proof of concept With a combination of the heightmap and relative shelter/exposure to a prevailing wave direction, beaches can form in the eddies, but also build up in the incident direction, to a lesser extent #screenshotsaturday #procgen #gamedev
aesthetic procgen bug: im trying to measure a proxy for exposure to a prevailing wave direction on points along a coastline. The first draft gave me this fun pattern
@conornally.bsky.social @somestinkydude.bsky.social Hey check it out -- delve running on linux! Installing mint has aged me and I only have internet access by tethering my phone, but the game seems to be running okay :P (And on an 6 year old computer, even)
Drew a wee snowman in the "middle" of the partially frozen loch morlich while skiing today. Thought it was way bigger than it turned out to be #nordicskiing #gpsart #cairngorms
Outsourcing the making of Christmas presents this year, by giving people some "build your own decoration" robin cards. You get this wee card and a tag saying: 1. Cut out my body and wings 2. Piece me together 3. Hang me on your tree It's good fun
Turns out there is a community of DOS enthusiasts looking for #traditionalroguelikes. A Diabaig player ported the open-source code to DOS, which is also emulatable in the browser (though it is a bit slow to actually play). archive.org/details/diab... Very cool, not something I realised was possible
