What's worse - sitting up scrolling on the phone, or sitting up watching whatever nonsense on the TV (streaming or terrestrial)? Don't mention the stack of books I'd love to make my way through
Long after the names of the cowards and quislings in the FAI are forgotten, the name Gavin Bazunu will be remembered as a byword for courage and integrity in standing up for justice in the teeth of a savage genocide. www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer...
Ireland v Israel: Day of infamy exposes serious lack of leadership in FAI
Gavin Bazunu has been left brutally isolated as any semblance of squad unity has been utterly sundered

“Humanity goes before the sport - it's that simple." Former Palestine captain Imad Zatara wants to send a message to Irish football - boycotting the games against Israel would send a powerful message to the world. Full interview & video here: philipoconnor.com/humanity-goe... #SpeirGorm
I think we should all be reading much more fiction.

I'm still looking for people's stories and insights about location tracking of family, friends, partners for good and/or ill.... If anyone has anything on this subject they'd like to talk to me about please email me on patrick.freyne@gmail.com (it can by anonymous)
Felt clever and tried to #cycle from Marlborough St to D'Olier St. I honestly felt like I'd die about five times. #Dublin is madhouse for cyclists. #speirgorm
They let Australia into the Eurovision. Canada in EU shouldn't really be that surprising.
I can't get Michael Cronins essay on the island of Ireland out of my head. It's something we take for granted, among other things www.irishtimes.com/life-style/p... Sorry if this behind a paywall - I really do think it's worth your time to read, but also think deeply about it.
It matters that Ireland is an island. That makes its past and present different from many other countries
Integrating island thinking into every area of public policy, from economy and security to education and the arts, is an exercise in connection not withdrawal

It was exactly ten years ago today, on my 33rd birthday, that I posted this comic online.
Wrote about how making it harder for people to become Irish citizens is a move that cannot be isolated from a broader context in which immigrants are being scapegoated. The reasoning around bringing Ireland in line with other EU states is also very thin.
Una Mullally: It’s easy to look tough on immigration. It’s much harder to build empathy
In practical terms, new citizenship rules will be another bureaucratic obstacle for people. But its other meaning is arbitrary cruelty-by-admin

Wrote a job application letter. Was supposed to have examples using STAR. Put into copilot to see what it said. Even robots cause RSD. Fucker ruined my evening.
Frequently feel a bit deflated heading into the weekend. Always looking for something to enliven me. Joy. Music. Art. How do people look forward to doing nothing? Beyond the normale, it's my constant gaping hole of emptiness that's easily filled in. Escuse the pun but its kind of shallow.

Repost: Higher Education and Even Higher Rents
In 2018 I posted this on my old WordPress account. Has much changed or does the process continue to acerbate?

We react to increasingly chaotic systems collapse with attempts to continue as normal which will be more expensive, less effective, and with much more human and animal suffering. The hunger stones are out ffs, we can't keep propping up what got us here
The idea that we wouldn't have to respond to climate breakdown was always nonsense..we had (and still to an extent have) 2 choices. Either we respond preemptively reduce emissions, restore habitats, rewet land, plan our food system based on need not market forces or ...
