It takes a lot to rouse me from the deep depression of the past year. Apparently, misrepresenting Japanese archaeology will do it...rivaled only by deleting comments, which I’ll share the gist of below. Who knows? Maybe this has incited me to finally start creating content again.

In Edmonton we tend to run them on low traffic side streets without businesses. Even downtown they run along routes that aren’t really fronted by things. Nevertheless locations have emerged alongside them that have turned out to be popular destinations for dining.

Does replacing parking with bike-lanes hurt restaurant business? Of course not, as this new peer-reviewed STUDY of 15 years of Montreal data showed. A lot of people left X for Bluesky because of the tone of the discourse there (I wasn't one of them, as it happens). But do be aware that angry lefties aren't above personal insults. If your answer is "oh but you said something I disagree with online", it might be worth rethinking a few things.

Reading #Enshittification by Cory Doctorow, and realizing one chapter in as he outlines his premise and process by which enshittification happens that the LLM generative AI folks have basically been in a competitive speed run of the whole arc.

NPR seems to have been one of the faster knee benders what with their “wow Canada doesn’t want to be the 51st state how weird is that” phase. Now they’re on to absolute anatomical improbability.
