When I think about the radicalizing effects of social media, I also think it’s important to remember that for the vast majority of people, there’s an element of choice. Because you can be exposed to bigoted and conspiratorial content online over and over from a young age and still not believe in it.

I have heard the phrase “silent majority” invoked twice this month as a reason to do something and once was by the Mayor of Vancouver for his plebiscite on drug use and the other was by John Cena to Foghorn Leghorn as a reason why ACME should get to explode the Looney Tunes

Ontario is a word that pre-dates both Canada and the U.S. In fact, we call them the Great Lakes because of Indigenous languages. Not to mention Erie and Huron are named for actual peoples. The colonialism is so tired.
Canadians want shorter wait times, more healthcare workers and better access. Most people remain resistant to a privatized system where someone’s income, insurance coverage or ability to pay plays a larger role in determining how quickly they receive medically necessary care.

Every time someone tries to ban something like an e-scooter because of a serious accident, I want to scream out loud that automobiles kill over 1.5 million people every year. Here in Canada, automobiles kill five people *every day*
Just saw Facebook antivaxxers speculating that 80-year-old Dolly Parton’s death was hastened by the COVID vaccine she helped fund the development of and received—half a decade ago—and am thinking about how the past decade spent catering to these people has been nothing but a waste of time.
big change to my material conditions: I am a bike commuter now. I will be updating my transportation opinions dialectically (I am already 27% more opinionated about bike lanes and our school crossing guard comrades)
🚨BREAKING: Our union of over 12,000 baristas are officially calling for a Starbucks boycott. Read this statement penned by Starbucks workers on why a boycott from ALL customers, allies, and organizations is necessary to fight back against corporate greed:
As usual, I am thinking about how both Dolly and Tim Curry took the imposed façade of gender, pulled it apart, and made it so big and beautiful
how come every motorist notices every time a cyclist "breaks a rule" but always claim they "never even saw them" when they hit us
It says so much about Dolly Parton's legacy that we are all listening to the same song before work today.

And I will say again, if you are in-group the entire politics of fascism is "you will get candy, I will kill the people who are keeping you from the candy you absolutely deserve, then you will have candy"
Fascism emerged as a syncretic movement that consciously embraced a politics of modernity and mass mobilization. It’s not exactly scandalous to point out why it has had lasting appeal.
This trade war should jolt us out of our reliance on volatile fossil fuels and accelerate our transition to clean, secure and reliable energy.
“What they want to build is a far-right, Christian nationalist-informed mecca for MAGA-type people. Zealots in Alberta. That’s what they want to build. And that’s what they’re building. They’re taking their cues from the kind of MAGA… the MAGA fringe in the U.S."

Sounds like the promise of a bike lane in BD that admin made to me when I brought up concerns with the city under-delivering on street calming is about to be broken. Well done to all involved.
Can't even have full-size stop signs anymore. We used to be a proper country.
