A genuine unpopular opinion I hold is that C++ is outdated. For example, function and operator names are all abbreviations instead of verbose and clear names, why? Because otherwise you might not be able to fit the source code in your floppy, dummy! It was made to fit needs that no longer exist.

Born to design, forced to develop. Best known for delivering underwhelming experiences or not at all.
Super excited for this. Such a shame that it's basically impossible to legally watch because Apple makes it as hard as humanly possible for you to give them money. Needing to buy a $1000 device as a prerequisite to being able to sign up to pay for a streaming service is so silly.
Implemented actual trench construction. Figuring out how to make the AI design proper trench networks is sure going to be a headache.
My RTS project is coming along quite well. #gamedev Next up, I want to keep working on more polish features like order queueing. Then afterwards, trench digging. Explosives already have a proper check for penetration, so trench warfare will actually be an effective strategy against shelling.
I've kept working on the trench system. It's working quite well. Aftermath of a battle involving some 12000 soldiers.
The PC-88/PC-98 were a Cambrian Explosion of sorts for a range of gameplay and design innovations that found their way to consoles in the mid-90s. many of these games were either straight-up H or dubiously-SFW (see: Doukyuusei, YU-NO, Princess Maker, later on Shizuku and ToHeart, the list goes on)

Melee combat. Needs animations but the code is there :)
Small test of the ranged units. There is no audio or many effects so it's not as epic, but it is pretty cool to see how well it performs considering that every soldier is doing their own line of sight check. #gamedev youtu.be/XGSVO0TQD9g

Took me a good few hours, but now I have basic ranged combat too. It's efficient enough that there's no noticeable framerate cost to having ~3000 soldiers shooting at each other, despite doing *real* individual line of site checks PER SOLDIER in a unit. Man, I might be onto something with this...

Took me a bit of work, but now it has realistic artillery ballistics and highly optimized raycasts for volley fire. Currently, it can handle twice the maximum unit count of any Total War game at 30 fps. www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAcg... I'm having a lot of fun with my hobby R&D project. #gamedev

I always liked how units would get tossed in the air by explosions in Total War games... #gamedev, as small R&D project I've been working on.

I've been re-posting fewer content from r/gamedev, that forum is now toxic, there's no discussion outside of shit-flinging about AI. So there's no good or insightful content for me to re-post. I miss having a forum for #gamedev discussions. They should consider banning all AI discussion.
Completely insane that works from the 50s and 60s are still not public domain. Culture is only allowed to advance once every 100 years. Until then, it's just re-make, re-releases, and regurgitation of the same shit by a few corporations.

I find it mind-blowing that there isn't greater outrage about the Japanese police using torture to extract a false confession out of a child, resulting in her death. Astonishing, really.
Youtube is now slowly becoming Facebook (as all big websites must in due time), so now you can play AI slop games directly from YT.
the thing about moral panics is they aren't about moral panics. it's about community control and rampant bigotry. censorship is a tool of fascists, those who purity police are fascists, and if your disgust agrees with their mission more than the right for fiction to gross you out, you are a fascist
Unreal Engine 6 was announced with all the pomp and excitement of an aftercomment about changing the water in the dog's bowl while watching TV with your mom.
If I was John Unreal, creator of Unreal Engine, I'd be so proud of all the new shit in UE6 that I'd make a big blog post about all the new exiting tech and changes. Maybe even a video! But instead UE6 was announced as a whatever during a 30-second segment talking about a football game.
Unreal Engine 4 lasted twice as long as 5. Given that there's no new groundbreaking technology or architectural changes, to me this says that they finally caved under the technical debt of UE5 and decided to make UE5.5 (but we won't fuck up rendering this time pinky promise) edition.
Epic has announced Unreal Engine 6. It's a 20% bigger number than 5, making it the biggest number they have ever announced. Unfortunately it fell short of the last major update (4 to 5), which was a whopping 25% increase.
I know why this is happening (and that in itself is fascinating in its own bleak way) but this is really funny because the black and white bags make it look like Calbee died in the war and the nation is in mourning.
Founded in 1949, Calbee owns a 50%+ share of the Japan snack market and 70%+ of the domestic potato chip market. Its monochrome bags will stand out on every chip aisle in every store nationwide.
Callenwood Wavefinder mod for #vintagestory ! ! Huge thanks for this one, wouldn't have thought about it myself but the album fits really well... If you need some tottomori tunes for your world check it out :]
Managed to get it done right before going to sleep! mods.vintagestory.at/tottomorimusic Let me know if you want any changes in the accreditation or anything else! I'd also be happy to add other albums of yours if that'd be alright with you. Testing this in-game, it fits right in. It's so good!
Hey @tottomori.bsky.social, your music is awesome! I saw that you mention non-commercial use, would you be okay with Callenwood Wavefinder being turned into a music mod for Vintage Story? I feel like the album really fits with the game. I'd be happy to link to your bandcamp in the mod description!
Here's a semi-obscure recommendation for people who liked #avatar (last airbender, not the blue dudes one): The Twelve Kingdoms.
