I'm a full Professor of Immunology and fully vaccinated. I didn't get vaccinated out of obedience, but after decades of studying the immune system and evaluating all evidence. Calling that "lack of critical thinking" is not an argument. It's ideology masked as pretend intellect.

I can listen to this without prejudice (as George Michael intended) comparing this to 7/29 because I was at this show too, but unaware of the standout If I Could. Thanks for the tip; I will investigate!

It is very good! As is 7/1/95, but there IS a Best Ever for If I Could and it's 6/29/00. No hyperbole, it's far and away better than any other version, hear for yourself:

TBH, they need a Lemeiux-esque “legacy manager” to make sure the right archival shows are released and for fun factoids like this to get out

@cottonmather.bsky.social the Crosseyed ending reminded me of the dirty, Viola Lee Blues-style jam at the end of the Dick’s Light. It felt completely earned.

Oh! And another thing! Note how thrilling the Peak jams in YEM and Crosseyed were. We feel the difference between an organic, oh-so-now-THIS-is-happening climax and a Peak™️ jam that the band seems to have steered toward, as a go-to move. It's important to remember the organic ones can be sick!

As I recall '96 percussion kit jams, they were about coaxing Page into getting pretty down on his clavinet after a slow start, as Fishman remained pretty steady. Nü Phish percussion jams are a cue for Fishman to go nuts, Page to go Moogeriffic and Mike to flip the table. #keepthekit for Fenway?

I hope that in due time Phish Archivist Kevin Shapiro will share some stories about how the Phish in 5 run came together.

A low-key reliable indicator of a sick jam is if Fishman starts yelling stuff.

No need to say "even the mini-kit jams" in Crosseyed were good. Let's admit they were highlights! As were the best kit jams on 95 night (there were just way too many). Fishman is fully capable of leading jams, & w/Page Mooging to the max & Mike playing his fingers off, it's a new style! Nü Phish

Phish, Inc is certainly doing what it can and as an unrepentant Custie I salute it, but if they really wanna separate 1.0lds from our money, they should set up a merch store with that thing they have now where you scan your credit card upon entrance and then just pick up and walk out with anything.

I haven't seen anybody mention this ... I finally looked it up and yes, indeed, that was the first time Harpua ever directly followed Fly Famous Mockingbird. I figured there was a chance it had happened in the 80's maybe, but @phish.net has no record of a precedent.

This was a fair question re: what I meant by calling 7/29 YEM the 12/6/97 Tweezer of Summer 26, meaning a highlight reel of what they'd been doing lately. 1) It included the thing of basing a jam around a spontaneous riff that sounds like a classic rock standard but isn't ...

Totally random note but surely the If I Could at MSG is one of the best versions? Possibly the best ever, given Trey’s improved vocals and the rarity of the acoustic? Waste too seemed elite, factoring in the good segue, apt setlist placement and just how tight and energetic the whole band was.

The reason I think 7/29/26 will hold up as Great Phish for any era, in a way that most Bakers’ Dozen jams don’t—they’re more Great For Their Era—is that the band was so sharp! Each of them was breathing fire. It was the best I’ve heard Trey since probably 1.0? There’s no grade weighting needed!
