Horrible place for your car to die, but damn, the view sure is good for a tow wait!

"The girls walk by, dressed up for each other..." Did I bother with makeup for my own wedding? Hell nah. Did I just buy lipstick and eyeliner for Broadway night out with the girls tomorrow? Hell yes! #RockyHorror
Going through my wardrobe, looking for something to wear to the Rocky Horror Show on Bway. Was in 2 casts as a teen and want to revisit the fashion w/o going too costumey. Digging deep into the clothing archives is such a fascinating look at my life. Kept 1 or 2 things from past interests each.
Cannot think of a better way to wrap up my birthday trip than visiting my beloved @spionchen.anomaly.moe on our way home. Except a visit that also includes some great margaritas, of course!
New curiosity: Why does NH have more vanity plates than anywhere else? We have seen more vanity plates in the past 4 days than in my first 50 years of life. All NH. Fascinating.
One last view of our gorgeous hotel. Have wanted to stay here since I was 4, wasn't sure if anything could live up to my dreams. Better than I imagined! Top-notch hospitality in my now-3rd favorite place on earth (besides my home and the Dolomites, of course). 3rd to last bucket list item ✅
Finally got to see Mt Washington before we leave NH! I kinda want to live on this veranda forever. The Presidentials are truly magnificent and I can't wait to come back and climb them in weather more like this. But even our backup hikes were amazing, there is no bad hiking here!
How it started, how it ended. Great 50th bday and I am truly the luckiest woman in the world that this man walks beside me whether we are on a mountain, in the field, on stage, or in the arcade. 2-2 on air hockey. Tomorrow the tie-breaker after we climb a mountain.
This is the kind of stuff making this lifelong, very open-minded space fan sorta hate space. It justifies so many reasons most people are pretty against space exploration absolutely perfectly. I can't sell exploration to anyone if it means ruining our home.
Proposed rule would exempt commercial launch licensing from environmental regulations The Department of Transportation is proposing to exempt commercial space launch licensing from many environmental regulations, a move praised by industry but criticized by environmental groups....
The Full Moon Dinner tonight may not wind up featuring the moon, but apparently our hotel has an astrophysicist who will give a talk. I'm assuming they did not mean to imply they have an astrophysicist on full-time staff, but the way the guy said it made it sound like that's normal for a hotel 😂
Lucked out today with no rain and accidentally bagged our first NH mountain (the relatively small Mt Avalon, 3440') when we were just going to some low waterfalls due to the forecast. It just kept... Not storming. Yay! So far, 50 is pretty cool!
Entered the White Mountains and almost immediately a bear ran out to the highway like a greeting party! First stop, a niche bookstore about mountains. Is there anything better than a super specific indie bookstore? Yes. A niche bookstore also famous for its map selection!
Very tiny astronomy fan rant: I wound up planning my 50th bday around this Full Moon dinner and there will be no moon. Two days out, 96% cloud cover. It is the most incredibly OF COURSE thing ever. What possessed me to plan around the sky in the mountains? 🤦♀️🤣
Most of the time, I love being a tiny person. My center of gravity kicks ass for so many things, I can fit comfortably in small spaces, and I can always get to the front of a crowd. But damn, it can be hard to be a small person who likes to carry a lot of stuff on her back. Head bonks get old...
It's so hard to believe I have been completely alone in the woods for over an hour only 2 miles from NYC. On a "very crowded" trail. That is basically empty. You can literally walk here from the NYC subway!
Anyone else obsessed with the Little Red Lighthouse and the Big Grey Bridge as a kid? What a view of those friends! Still makes my heart go all squishy.
Talk about a different kind of view from a hiking trail!! Truly unique hiking spot that I have somehow ignored my whole life. Someday I will follow this trail all the way to the Adirondacks... #goals
Suicide hotline call box at the entrance to the George Washington Bridge north walkway. Odd thing to see at the start of a hike, but then, the GWB is even odder. Glad it's there and I hope people use it!
I totally get why schools put hi-viz vests on the toddler train kids. It's smart! But it still makes them look like tiny little chain gangs.
AI has destroyed my productivity. I feel like I spend hours getting rid of it on things every week as someone tries to sneak it onto my devices in some new, utterly useless at best, offensive at worst, form. It makes early Windows bloatware seem benevolent. At least that was easy to delete!
Catching up on DC after such a fabulous day in progressive land is... Jarring. To those who posted it, thank you for your service. A red hat guy in Hoboken tried to start a, "USA! USA!" chant and he just got dirty looks and gave up after 3. Then we all cheered for British bombers. Different.
A $3 @mta.info subway fare and some good Q train timing can buy you one hell of a view of the July 4th fireworks and the Brooklyn Bridge light show! Huge shoutout to the train operator for slow rolling over the Manhattan Bridge and the conductor for announcing it.
Just before the Macy's fireworks started, the heat broke and dropped to 84F, then a cool ocean breeze ran right up the Hudson and provided the happy crowd with nature's ac. They were so vintage-y this year! Quiet and full of just stunning old-skool cool fireworks.
I swear, the ol' spacetweep magic has been in FORCE today. Found the last spot in the crowded shade for the naval parade. The best soccer pub had a perfect table for us. Now we have found a terrific spot for the fireworks. Thanks for making today amazing, @vtjawo.bsky.social!!
Been trying to upload air and naval parade pics and Bluesky is just not having it. But what a morning! We found a bit of that ol' spacetweep magic and the last shady spot on Pier A in Hoboken. It was glorious (despite hell heat) until a band started playing mid-late 90s pop hits. 😂
My town has these "toddler trains" of day care kids that go to the parks to play. There are 3 walking down my block right now chanting, "Let's go Knicks!" at the top of their tiny lungs. 😁
The World Cup is weird. One day you are simply watching some soccer. A few weeks later you are tearing up the dance floor that is your living room to a Bosnian fan song and singing about moving to... Your own country. youtu.be/0a5BJxrarL0?...
