We’ve all met that person who finds out you’re a writer and then says: “I have an idea for a novel and I’m looking for a collaborator…” Or: “I’m writing a novel… got it all worked out in my head, I just gotta get it down on paper.” Yeah, these are the people using AI.

A friend returned from seeing the Odyssey and asked the Co-Pilot chatbot for a cast list. This was the chatbot's response:

Years ago, I was reviewing books for our local independent weekly. For our Fourth of July issue, I wrote a review of the Declaration of Independence. I titled it, “Rare First Sedition.” The paper changed that to, “Inalienable… Writes!” And I’m still pissed about it.
Today's visit to my local indie was brief but the haul was a good one... I've known @craigwallwork.bsky.social longer than anyone else I've never met (trust me, that makes sense), and I can vouch that the lad knows how to make with the words.
Fluorescent tubes are the Trader Joe’s parking lot of lights.
Today’s the day! Publication day for Waves of Burden. It’s surreal. This book and I have been on quite a journey since I wrote the first draft in 2022. I experienced so much, good and bad, as you would expect for over four years. I wrote this novel with 1/2

Today marks three years without a drink. In 2023, I found a non faith-based recovery group and, the night after my first meeting, I wrote the date on the last bottle I finished and put it on my bookshelf. My brain's been slowly coming back, and I've been writing more and more.
Happy pub day to @jordanharper.bsky.social ... the rest of my TBR pile is on hold now that I've got this bad boy in my hands.
Harper's previous short in SWW, "My Savage Year," is among my "gold standard" short stories. Get on this.
A washed-up standup comedian, a floating pleasure island out in the desert, a very strong Mouse, and violence buried but not quite. My new short story HOW TO KILL. This is a story that I've been working on for years and I'm proud to have it in THE SOUTHWEST REVIEW

I read the “Save America Act,” so you don’t have to. Most of the media apparently *hasn’t* read it because, if they had, they would be sounding the alarm about the provision in Point 1, below, which almost none of them have even mentioned. I hope this summary helps raise awareness. 1/
New post, finally getting around to addressing what I think about AI. Link in first comment.
Here's a brief reprieve from doomscrolling to shout out the Amazon Kindle deal on #MotherHowl. I just dropped close to a grand at the mechanic, so... you know what to do. Link in first comment.
I don't recall when or where I tripped across "Death Will Have Your Eyes," but that impulse buy ultimately became one of my desert island reads. We've lost a giant. Sleep good, good man. James Sallis (12/21/44 - 1/27/26)
