Writers: any org that advertises itself as "vital" to your career while boosting everything that prevents you from actually having a career is not an organization you should join. Don't pay to be in a glorified clique.

There. Are. No. Trans. Women. In. The. WNBA. This whole conversation is a racist trap and long circuitous argument that always comes back to insulting cisgender Black women by calling them not women. In particular it attacks: Brittany Griner, Liz Cambage, and A'Ja Wilson.
Rare credit where it’s due. This is the correct headline.
People who pose questions like this are telling on themselves when it comes to whether they actually work or have been pretending to work.

Speaking solely for myself, but orgs like HWA do not attract me for a multitude of reasons and chief among them tends to be because their leadership seems less interested in writing/craft/protecting writers while extremely interested in wielding power within writing circles.
So apparently that HWA pro-AI newsletter also uses Indigenous water rights issues as a prop, trivializing the activism by Indigenous peoples to protect our water including specific anti-data centre actions. I guess they figured why not alienate Indigenous horror writers while they’re at it?
I've lived in rural (and urban-ish) North Louisiana going on 15 years. Mostly deep red, pockets of light blue. I've not seen people organize around any issue like the data centers. They won't beat Amazon's and Meta's money in the short term, but they're ripe for mobilization.

So far, the organizers mention data centers first at every single event. From racial justice orgs to old school activists who don’t usually think about tech policy. This has legs.
When Republicans win by thin margins (or outright lose the popular vote but win via the Electoral College), they have a mandate to raze society. When progressives win by thin margins, it doesn't really count as a win and it would be really unfair of them to enact their agenda.
