I think we should start measuring government programmes in Hayden Donnell's 'metres of roading'. Lowering the age of bowel cancer screening to 45? 5 metres of road. A year of Three Waters? 63 metres of road. Reading recovery? 13mm of road.

I've received my first AI scam email about my new book (dissection of themes, flattery of technique etc etc)... even though it doesn't come out for another two months. Maybe we've skipped sentient AI and gone straight to precognition?

Read news NBA player Brandon Clarke (29) died before I boarded plane to Auckland. Then guy in window seat said empty seat next to him was his mate's, but he'd recently died. Spent the non-wifi hours wondering who #3 would be. Turns out it was Jason Collins, NBA's 1st openly gay NBA player. Fuck. 🙏🙏🙏

Many people reckon Simeon Brown should have asked more questions about the risks of his mandatory higher speed limits in neighbourhoods, around schools & on dangerous highways — evidence that was readily available to him at the time, and that continues to accumulate in the form of injuries & deaths.

Simeon Brown reckons Labour ministers should have asked more questions about the myocarditis risk for 12-16 year olds posed by two shots of the Covid vaccine. But how could they ask questions about advice they didn't know existed?

Please check your enrolment status BUT don't use autofill to do so, as that can cause the site to fail to find you. I will be endlessly barracking people about this closer to Writ Day.

I have just learned a woman on the Maori electoral roll checked her details overnight and found she was registered as living in a place a long way from where she actually lives. #NZPol #ElectoralRollThis news caused one of the people I live with to check their status. (1/2)

Saw Nirvanna The Band The Show The Film last night (the one and only session in Dunedin)... Still thinking about it. The stunts, the gags, the things that have changed since 2008. Can't wait for the sequel in 17 years

Uh yes Stuff I do actually have a question, why did you start something called 'The Forever Project' in 2019 where you promised much more coverage of an issue that you yourselves labelled as 'existential' and now you don't give a shit and just rag on cycleways while the world burns? #nzpol

Great launch for Breton Dukes' new novel PARTY BOY at Woof! featuring songs from the Broken Heartbreakers (one named after the book), nice words (incl. from editor Lawrence Patchett, pictured) and a peppering of awkwardness and peril the befits the book.

If you are talking about increasing the cost of electricity, and not investing in distributed, resilient solar and battery capacity, nor electrification of transport in multi modes, you don’t understand the problem and should not be anywhere near power (pun absofuckinglutely intended)

every time i see a white guy in their fifties radicalized by the twitter algorithm into racism and extremism i think about how it's a total failure of the youtube algorithm to instead radicalize him into home brewing, elaborate A/V setups, or DIY solar

This is what I expected from the government, but it's incredibly disappointing that Autism New Zealand should go along with it. We need to make "regular" schools cater to neurodivergent students — which will benefit everyone! — not segregate difference.

Government announces new charter school for secondary students with autism

The government has announced the Autism NZ Education Hub will start in Term 3 for neurodivergent secondary students who are struggling with traditional schooling.

Copy-paste this for New Zealand, eh (and no doubt a few other purportedly green island nations) 😬🐄🚙💩 Wouldn’t it be lovely to live up to our ad campaigns and film exports, and the gorgeous images we slap on our products, and all the stories we tell our kids about how this is a great place to live?

My impression of Ireland after cycling around for a few days is that it’s a beautiful country with really lovely people. It’s too bad about the smell of cow poop and car exhaust. Also, @hannahdaly.ie and her Dad are awesome.

Impressions of Ireland

* Beautiful country
* Lovely people (really, the best)
* Too many cars on narrow lanes going too fast, and not enough of them are EVs
* A few drivers slow down to pass; some even give a whole lane (which is 1.5 m and the law)
* Too many cows
* Could have more vegetarian food
* Well signed cycle ways on roads with 100 km/h speed limit and no shoulder 😬
* Windy, yet not many wind turbines.
* Challenging to take bikes on trains
