I think everyone should see this incredible picture of Dolly Parton: it’s by Stacie Williams (asterosperma on Instagram) and it’s called The Queen of Appalachia

A stunning screenprint image in a style which is part folk art, part religious icon. Dolly Parton sits on a throne-like wooden chair, surrounded by garlands of flowers and leaves. Orange butterflies (I think they are monarchs?) hover around her head. Her hair is huge and golden, and she is wearing a long, sweeping orange gown, which is turned up over her knee to show off her brown knee length high heeled boots. Two black bear cubs play around her, one on the floor and one in her lap. Dolly stares calmly at the viewer. It's way past time that mentioning the artist when promoting books, physical media, film posters etc. should be the norm. With slop everywhere, let ppl know you hired an artist! This is good marketing, you look good because of it. Which is why it feels suspicious when ppl don't do this

Okay, question, peanut gallery: What do we do when we KNOW someone is lying about using genAI for creative works? And they’re getting traction, taking commissions, etc? When is it a witch hunt? When is it a waste of time? Is it more damaging on the community to make the call-out, or let it go? :(

Very little boils my blood more than fraud. When people generate AI "watercolors" and pass them off as the real thing, it's very easy to be fooled. But you WILL slip up, and all the people you've bilked will not be happy. This has been my rant for the day. Now back to making actual art...
