“Sometimes that shark, he looks right into you. Right into your eyes. You know the thing about a shark, he’s got lifeless eyes. Black eyes, like a doll’s eyes. When he comes at you, doesn’t seem to be livin’.

Jul 30th 1994 - Donna Hawthorne was beaten to death. Her ex-husband, Joe Doucett, was being held against his will at the time, and his captors planted Joe's DNA at the crime scene. 📽️📅 Oldboy (2013)

3 Screenshots from the movie "Oldboy" (2013): First, a television screen displays a true crime show called "Mysteries of Crime" with the host standing in front of the show's logo, and the subtitle reads "July 30th, 1994." Second, a shirtless man with long hair sits on a bed in a dimly lit, sparsely furnished room with a cross on the wall, and the subtitle reads "Donna Hawthorne is beaten to death." Third, the same man sits on the bed in the same room, with the subtitle "For five years Joe Doucett has eluded justice."

Book all but done with a title change! Two 'special' internal pages to finish which I saved as a treat, and the cover is currently underway. It'll go to Kickstarter early Autumn, and I'll set up a pre-launch soon. This is one of the early pages - I will show more eventually - there's 120 of 'em!

A text free, three panel page from a graphic novel in black and white. It features an old car being driven to a North Devon destination in winter. The driver is a woman in a cloche hat and scarf.

The great Pat Oliphant has departed this mortal coil. He was truly one of the greats—a paradigm shifter if ever there was one. Hogan’s Alley #25 will have a long appreciation of this singular genius.

I'm running Cartoon Camp for @cartoonart.bsky.social this week, so every morning we check what kind of weird special event days are on the calendar, and spin that into some kind of drawing challenge. Let me wish you all a happy World Zoonoses Day, which isn't at all what it sounds like.
