Dr Robert B Shpiner on how on a single recent day, speeches by Trump, Rubio & Stephen Miller showed how the administration has dropped fighting terrorism to fight Democrats, argues those on the left are subhuman & seeks to keep such Americans from voting. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Three speeches on a single day signaled a dying American democracy | Robert Shpiner

Stephen Miller warned of a leftwing ‘cancer’ threatening civilization. As a critical care doctor, I have a response to his diagnosis

Tired of U.S. corporate behemoths making a ton of profits in the UK and paying insultingly little tax. Software group Palantir made 100s of millions last year & paid only £2M in taxes. Their tax rate globally compared to profits is an insulting 1.4%. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Palantir paid just £2m corporation tax in UK in 2024 despite lucrative public sector contracts

Software group benefits from global systems and accounting practices ‘that enable tax to be shirked’, says union boss

Before my wonderful partner and I found each other a couple years ago, I experienced this a few times, or more frequently, worse treatment--waiting extra time to get a table, unhappy looks, restaurant sites not allowing you to reserve for one, etc.

Economist Joseph E Steiglitz takes Trump to the woodshed on his new even dumber tariffs after Supreme Court slapped down his previous ones. Trump claims he’s punishing “forced labor” worldwide, yet he ignores China and U.S.’ own extensive use of forced labor. 🙄 www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Trump’s hypocritical new tariffs are a chance for the world to fight back | Joseph Stiglitz

The president’s pretext of stopping forced labour is only a ruse – he is trying to grab a share of global trade for the US

With actions this week at DOJ & Judiciary Committee, GOP happily signed on for approving corruption, crime, massive tax cheating, violence against America & rewarding it, keeping its perpetrators from punishment. The Democrats have to find a way to communicate this to millions.

On X today, Senator Adam Schiff ⬇️ established the B.S. behind the now-Attorney General Todd Blanche’s dubious deal on Trump’s corrupt anti-weaponization fund, which is NOT dead, nor is Trump’s plot to save $100M+ on his taxes and his family's audits for his quite possible tax crimes and violations.

On the eve of the release of a new film about Tony Bourdain’s early career, a writer goes back to Provincetown, “where living a marginal existence was easy,” to interview witnesses and find how a wild culinary legend was born in the 1970s. Great pics. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/30/d...

As a new film evokes his coming-of-age in this bohemian Cape Cod town, Pete Wells goes looking for the people and restaurants that shaped him.

Have to admit, got rather excited when Billy Joel discussed the musical structure of one of my fave songs of his, “Summer, Highland Falls,” from his underrated 1975 “Turnstiles” LP. And “Honesty” at 12:00. Also, gotta love hearing so much of Billy's NYC accent. Kudos also to Rick Beato.

I’ve never seen a Billy Joel interview like this, where he speaks so intimately and emotionally of his love of classical music since he was a kid, and how it has influenced his songwriting. Could watch him chat about music theory all night... www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1Be...

Wrong. Chicken. Cornyn could've grown a spine, voted against Blanche for Attorney General--if he & Tillis had done this because they were LIED to that the weaponization fund was killed, that would've sent a strong message. What's Cornyn got to lose? Trump supported a candidate that primaried him🙄.

The GOP's official party-wide slogan marching into the midterms: "There's nothing we could do to rein in the president"

To place even more poignance onto this story, one of the schools that had its voting site taken away, North Carolina A&T, was very near where the first sit-in took place in 1960, when black students bravely refused to tolerate cruel Jim Crow segregation--a civil rights landmark.

GOP North Carolina officials approved eliminating two early voting sites on college campuses that hosted 12,000 voters in 2024, including one at HBCU North Carolina A&T State Univ, another ugly unpatriotic GOP attempt over the years to freeze out young & black voters. www.youtube.com/watch?v=weRt...
