Looking back on the cultural journey of the #CY2026EU Presidency, which brought Cyprus’ history, heritage and contemporary creative scene to audiences in Cyprus and 30+ countries. Exhibitions, concerts, performances and creative encounters celebrated the richness and diversity of Cypriot culture.
The Cyprus Presidency set five overarching priorities from the outset. From defence and security to competitiveness, enlargement, citizens' rights and the EU's long-term budget, we worked tirelessly to deliver tangible, concrete results on all of them.

Today, Cyprus concludes its Presidency of the Council of the European Union. For 181 days, we have led with purpose, determination and a clear vision: to give substance to Europe’s strategic autonomy and advance European independence. 👇
Six months ago, Permanent Representative Ambassador Christina Rafti and Deputy Permanent Representative Ambassador Giorgos Ioannides took their seats at COREPER II and COREPER I, for the first time as Presidency. Now, both have held their final meetings under #CY2026EU.
Today, the Cyprus Presidency is delivering on one of the key files of the ‘One Europe, One Market’ roadmap. EU Ambassadors endorsed the agreement facilitating the e-declaration of posted workers.
🚛 The Council and the European Parliament reached a provisional agreement on targeted amendments to the Eurovignette directive. It clarifies CO₂-based road charging rules for heavy-duty vehicles, strengthens legal certainty and supports a smoother, more harmonised implementation across the EU.
📌 DEAL 🧪 @consilium.europa.eu and @europarl.europa.eu reached a provisional agreement to strengthen ECHA by improving its governance and funding.
📚 The Council has approved the resolution on the second cycle of the strategic framework for European cooperation in education and training towards the European Education Area (2026-2030).
The Council has adopted conclusions highlighting the need to consider demographic trends when designing housing policies across the EU.
The Council has adopted the reform of the Research Fund for Coal and Steel.
The Council has adopted new rules to strengthen farmers' position in the EU food supply chain.
Today, the Council agreed its partial general approach on two key regulations for the EU budget for the period 2028-2034 #MFF.
🆕 The Council just gave its final green light to a new regulation aiming to streamline and simplify certain rules regarding artificial intelligence. The new law forms part of the Omnibus VII legislative package of the EU’s simplification agenda.
The Council today adopted a recommendation on integrated wildfire risk management, helping member states better prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from wildfires. The recommendation promotes a more coordinated and integrated approach covering the entire disaster risk management cycle.
The Council has adopted conclusions calling for stronger action to protect girls and young women from cyber violence.
