How To Delay Affordable Senior Housing in SF, Despite a Law That Blocks Appeals
Bernal Heights neighbors demanded and got a smaller building. Now they say it shouldn’t cut a private park in half. This wasn’t meant to happen.

Fantastic choice by Mayor Lurie! Ruth is smart, earnest, tireless, and dedicated to building bridges in the wild world of SF politics.

This is right around the corner and can’t come soon enough to reduce upward pressure on the existing older housing stock in the neighborhood.
D9 Neighbors for Housing (SF)@d9neighbors.bsky.social · 11mo agoThe news is in the @sfchronicle.com today in a story that includes quotes from several of our members on why Bernal Heights, which has built miniscule numbers of housing for decades, needs more housing now: www.sfchronicle.com/realestate/a...
The only things that would make this news better are (1) getting even more units onto this site and (2) build the 30th St BART station we’ve longed for
D9 Neighbors for Housing (SF)@d9neighbors.bsky.social · 11mo agoToday we learned that there's a development proposal to add hundreds of new homes at the Safeway site on Mission Street in Bernal Heights! We're so excited to hear this -- it's a site that would be perfect for housing and can be developed with minimum disruptions.

Towards the end of the night there was some much-needed comedy time with @throgers.bsky.social, who brought a laugh while reminding people that we need housing and the FZP can help deliver it!
Jane Natoli 🥑🚲🍍@wafoli.bsky.social · 12mo agoComment 129: Thomas speaking in support of Family Zoning, originally arrived here in the 1900s haha. Met his spouse here and is raising his kid here, wants more people to be able to tell that story, the FZP can make that happen
@bpinsf.bsky.social, who stayed in Room 250 from the beginning until the bitter end! And spoke as a lover of San Francisco who wants to live around his family (imagine that!)
Jane Natoli 🥑🚲🍍@wafoli.bsky.social · 12mo agoComment 112: Brandon with D9 Neighbors for Housing, unabashed lover of San Francisco, it’s a wonderful place to be, but his other family members cannot afford to live here compared to Denver or St. Louis. We need to do much better and build more housing
Fearless D9N leader @serogers.bsky.social on what makes a city great!
Jane Natoli 🥑🚲🍍@wafoli.bsky.social · 12mo agoComment 109: Sarah Rogers with D9 Neighbors For Housing in strong support. People who work here should be able to live here, people should be able to move as their life situations change, we shut off the ability to enjoy the landmarks of tomorrow if we don’t build today
@lala-wu.bsky.social on generational housing needs!
Jane Natoli 🥑🚲🍍@wafoli.bsky.social · 12mo agoComment 105: Lala from D9 Neighbors For Housing speaking in support, talks about how she loves being able to raise her daughter here in Bernal, and how her parents came as immigrants and had opportunity that she just doesn’t see here these days
Meg Rudy on how the status quo is killing us!
Jane Natoli 🥑🚲🍍@wafoli.bsky.social · 12mo agoComment 101: another D9 Neighbors member who is speaking in support, talks about moving here from North Carolina feeling like coming home due to her husband’s family roots here. But staying here is hard to imagine if we don’t change the status quo and build more homes
Kate Voshell, D9 Neighbors lead, with more inconvenient facts!
Jane Natoli 🥑🚲🍍@wafoli.bsky.social · 12mo agoComment 100: Kate, a D9 Neighbors for Housing member, being short and sweet, how did we get here? We got her because the board downzoned San Francisco in 1978 with dire consequences
@ruthferguson.bsky.social with some inconvenient facts!
Jane Natoli 🥑🚲🍍@wafoli.bsky.social · 12mo agoComment 82: Ruth Ferguson in the house. Talks about how her sister lives in a rent-controlled duplex and how she is one of the lucky ones who has stability, but it can’t just be about who is lucky. San Francisco downzoned in 1978 and we’ve seen the harmful impacts
No name but....this is probably one of our members who likes free pony metaphors 😆
Jane Natoli 🥑🚲🍍@wafoli.bsky.social · 12mo agoComment 80: a speaker in support (shoutout to Bernal Heights), highlighting the tensions of how housing has skyrocketed in value but it’s just developers who speculate, proposes that all new units come with a free pony if we tack on unrealistic expectations
What do we want? More opportunity! When do we want it? Now!
Jane Natoli 🥑🚲🍍@wafoli.bsky.social · 12mo agoComment 69: another speaker in D9 who is in support of the benefits of bringing more opportunity to more neighborhoods throughout San Francisco
Thank you @wafoli.bsky.social for live-tweeting these proceedings. It's a ton of work! Our members made a strong showing yesterday to speak in favor of the Family Zoning Plan - reposts of our comments to follow!
Jane Natoli 🥑🚲🍍@wafoli.bsky.social · last yr.Look alive, the Board of Supervisors Land Use and Transportation committee has been called to order. Room 250 is already full for the Family Zoning Plan
Thanks to D9 Supe @jackiefielder.bsky.social and her staff for meeting with us yesterday! We had a productive conversation about housing issues and policies in D9 and beyond, and we look forward to more conversations going forward.
HUGE HOUSING NEWS: The Assembly just passed our bill allowing more homes near public transportation, SB 79! We need more housing & we need it near transit. It’ll reduce traffic congestion & carbon emissions & increase transit ridership & affordability. Go housing! Go transit!
