Out of all the story related changes cut from the final version of Mother 3, this one always sticks with me. I have to wonder why they changed the end of chapter 7 to the Masked Man just flying off instead. Maybe they thought him being pushed to his limits and exploding was just too much?

random EB64 observation: before I played Mother 3, I thought that this (unknown to me at the time) robo dinosaur was in front of some fire background. Only after playing Mother 3, I realised it's the scene of the Mecha-Drago collapsing after fighting Flint, & letting out a single tear before dying…

The Mecha-Drago in EarthBound 64, letting out a tear. The same scene as per the GBA version of Mother 3.

Relatedly, I was irritated when Toby Fox was the sole person whose message appeared at the MOTHER 2 anniversary concert. While I'm sure he's a fine person, I thought, "Come on, really?! Do I have to be reminded even here?"

Undertale deserves its accolades, and I'm thankful for the encouragement it's given to independent developers. But it's not for me, and I'm frustrated that it's indelibly linked to the MOTHER series I cherish. I'd like a space to talk about MOTHER without UT/DT creeping in, but that's not possible.

It's wild to me that Benimaru Itoh and Toshinao Aoki didn't even get a special thanks credit in the final cut of Mother 3. Even if you despise how the N64 version looked, they still arguably laid vital groundwork for what the character and enemy designs would evolve into.
