You can and should point out that police killing people daily is the "norm" in America. But that doesn't mean you *accept* the normalization of this violence and the way some people rush to smugly point these things out contributes to collective fatigue. Your horror has been stolen from you.

Not only is letting the stay expire a bad look, it will cause chaos, confusion and fear for abortion providers and abortion seekers. Abortion providers and funds are responding to questions from confused and scared people NOW

That means that Justice Alito’s administrative stay has technically expired, and that the Fifth Circuit’s ruling is back in effect. I still think we’ll hear something from the Court soon, but letting the stay expire is a bad look.

One of the most amusingly petty things Justice Alito does is to put deadlines on administrative stays *only* when he is deeply *unsympathetic* to the applicants. He did it in the 2023 mife case and the 2024 SB4 immigration case; and he did it today. In all other cases, his stays are indefinite:

Terrific thread. I’ll just add: 1. I think there’s a good chance the Supreme Court will stay this decision, allowing providers to keep mailing mifepristone for the time being. 2. The Trump administration didn’t want this! Its plan was to wait until after the midterms to crack down on mifepristone.
