So many Republican male lawmakers have been accused of physical and sexual violence against women that the report about this guy, who harassed his employees with unsolicited gifts, inappropriate comments, and demands for dinners, seems almost quaint. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/03/u...

There’s no contradiction between this kind of pornographic misogyny and puritanical misogyny of the old Christian right. Both use sexuality to enact men’s domination over women. That one sect forces sex and the other prohibits it is largely a matter of taste.

yes they think you should have no right to say no, no right to control your own body, AND that you should be mocked and degraded and treated like a subhuman for *being* the kind of natural inferior who doesn't have control over their own body

the point is that women and other people with uteruses are objects for sex and reproduction AND that it's men's right to humiliate and ridicule them for occupying that required role. it is, to them, an inherently degraded & degrading role. also they don't see children as people but as property.

To a hammer everything looks like a nail etc, but I do think that gender is the first and primary hierarchical division of human beings, and that much of the passion of the transphobic project comes from transphobes (correctly) assessing trans people’s threat to all other hierarchies.

trans rights frankly is a top 5, potentially top 3 issue for me despite not being trans and not having any trans family being bigoted against trans folks not only hurts my trans friends and every trans person but is so predictive of further bigotry

Familiar pattern: "In Missouri, Georgia, Ohio and now Nebraska, Republican men running for high office face significant allegations of domestic violence, stalking, even sexual assault — accusations that once would have derailed any run for office." --NYT 2022

some classic Traditional Patriarchal Values right here. also with Moreno's refusal to call it out, because the whole thing is largely conspiracy to enable the abuse of women, even your own daughter www.nytimes.com/2026/07/28/u...

Approximately 1 out of 3 women will experience sexual and/or physical abuse in their lifetime and you still have men claiming that allegations must be false because there are too many of them. It’s actually the opposite. The vast majority allegations will never become public

Sometimes you have to confront that your suffering is of your own making, and for me that means accepting that it was my own actions and choices that led me to a place where I have to read JD Vance’s book for work.

On the one hand I literacy is in decline, our collective capacity for attention & critical thought has been grievously eroded, and all of us are getting stupider, easier to exploit, and less alert to beauty. On the other hand, pop culture is currently dominated by a war of competing classicists.
