Up early enough to discover there is a milkman in our area, which is nice. I don't trust the foxes not to steal a pint left on the doorstep though

Happy International Translation Day (pass it on)
#weilesnichtreicht
I was on Radio 4 for about 15 seconds - fame at last! Seriously though, it's brilliant that they talked to a translator in this context www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...

Ok, let’s play pop song problems and solutions. I’ll start: Problem: Night Fever Solution: Night Nurse
Today has been a great excuse to catch up with the people I watched the 1999 eclipse with in Perranporth. Now way more than half our lives ago
In the middle of the night our arthritic, 16-year-old cat managed to Incredible-Hulk his way through a locked catflap. Clearly the drugs do work
News! From September I'll be the Royal Literary Fund fellow at @newnhamcollege.bsky.social, helping students with all aspects of essay writing. Very excited www.rlf.org.uk/writer/ruth-...

Fox News: we left the patio door open and briefly had an indoor fox, this is not a good development.
Went to see Q again. "By his genius as an author and as an editor he enriched the literature of England." It's quite a memorial
It's time for another New Books in German feature week! 🥳 We start with translator @dances-with-voles.bsky.social reading from A DIFFERENT STORY, the sophisticated, humorous tale of an aging film producer sentenced to regular psychoanalysis. Seeking a publisher!

Fox news: foxes stole a gardening glove last night, ate all the fingers and then urinated on it. My water shoes are also missing. Stay tuned for more developments.

Book of the month: Iris Wolff
Last month I had the honour of introducing the Indie Press Network's spring showcases, two virtual events presenting some of the key titles coming out from small presses in the UK and Ireland in the next few months. As indie presses have long been the heartland of translated literature, I was only too pleased to have the opportunity to hear publishers present some of the books they're most excited about.

Boring request but: work laptop recommendations please before mine finally dies... PC with minimal AI and shedloads of memory are the main things I want, the current one is 9 years old and that's at least how long I would like the next one to last.
Pub day for this beautiful book, launching at Hatchard's this evening - looking forward to enthusing about it to people
9.30am, north Cornwall; 7.30pm, London. Don't fully understand how that took ten hours but there were certainly some Incidents along the way. The final straw was when a train got stranded in Clapham by someone dropping their bag on the track.
10am Yorkshire, 10pm Kent. Not pictured: the A1(M), good grief that's a long road.

Went to see The Rose of Nevada last night, loved every second of it. The beauty of those shots of rust and flaking paint, and Francis Magee's haunting rendition of The White Rose in Cornish, are why I will definitely see it again.
