Yesterday we went to inspect Delaney and that letter is correct. The solution is closing Delaney and abolishing ICE.

A year ago today, I went to Delaney Hall to conduct oversight of ICE. I went to protect our community that lives in fear and expose the abuses ICE tries to hide in the dark. Though Trump's DOJ wants to intimidate and imprison me, I won't back down from standing for what's right.

The greatest threat to the homeland right now is DHS under Kristi Noem’s control. Just last week, a parent in NJ-10 was detained by ICE after ordering food for his 6-year-old daughter. When her dad didn’t come home, the little girl was found crying and wandering for hours outside, parentless.

This was not how it was supposed to end—but here we are. While we applaud the passage of the Safe Communities Act, we reject Gov. Murphy’s decision to withhold the full set of immigrant protections our communities fought for. It should not have taken more than a year for these bills to advance.
