Look at his stupid little outstretched leg

Northeastern ChemE professor. My research is educational comics. I used to make Surviving The World. I believe the plural should be "chemicals engineer". http://sciencetheworld.com
It should be illegal to email me
I went back to STW photocomic style for my latest pedagogy comic in Chemical Engineering Education (see the single panel from what I submitted) and if the editor suggests that I use AI art to make the comic next time, I'm going to lean into making the next one even more obnoxiously photocomicky
Three grants proposals denied in a week! Just having a great time over here
Happy October Sages' Day! (This STW comic is 15 years old today. Jesus. survivingtheworld.net/Lesson1186.h...)
I went to Cornell and really enjoyed being there for grad school. It was a really great place to learn and in many ways set me up for a lot. That said, rip it all up from the roots, I don't care how broadly it disrupts every friggin thing there and beyond.
“i don’t want some other kid putting thoughts into my kid’s head that lead to a harder life.” well, first of all, stop working so fucking hard to make being trans a harder life, you piece of shit. second of all, if you can’t handle talking to your kid about gender you probably shouldn’t have a kid.
Blood-themed pickleball racket giveaway for donating blood is... a choice
The White Sox have to retire Munetaka Murakami's number immediately. This is the greatest interview of all time.
Murakami loving his first clubhouse celebration 😂

My grad student and I just submitted a paper on educational comics titled "Graphic Pedagogy", and we're both delighted
Nothing like a 10 PM Friday night NSF proposal rejection, 10.5 months after it was submitted!
Stand up for trans kids, you utter cowards
Grant submitted, now to sit and wait for a few months, staring the email inbox so that some kind reviewer will agree that we should be able to make and study comics because comics are great
Just a few days into the semester but I think I finally got this grant proposal wrangled. Ignore that it's 2:30 AM, I'm sure that won't impact me at all when I'm teaching in the afternoon
5PM on a Saturday in September and ESPN in the gym is showing a spikeball tournament. Really not making me regret at all cutting cable a few years back
The only professor I had that addressed 9/11 was my German professor who pointed to how fortunate we were to have a diverse group learning together in her class, and basically said "don't forget how important that is, keep fighting for each other"
Realized today my youngest daughter's math teacher is named "Mr. Stats" That's some ridiculous nominative determinism right there
First day of 36th grade! Let's go teach some chemical engineering.
Qualtrics auto-generated these answer options for the educational survey we're building.
Every text I got from Markey's people, I simply told them to kick Moulton's ass, and they were simply 'thank you for the support' And to think, the Globe endorsed Moulton
Well hot damn
Hey, remember Cannonball, my daughter? She starts high school tomorrow. Time sure moves linearly, huh?
213 to right and 351 to left. Normal baseball dimensions. Hello from Banana Ball at Gillette stadium
I'm signing an executive order renaming "dollars" to "saw bucks". I'm signing an executive order renaming the "San Diego Padres" to the "Providence Friars". I'm signing an executive order renaming the color "orange" to the color "alpha force strike tint". None of it means anything. I am very smart.
I honestly figured someone would have pointed this out to him in the interim when I made this joke the other day
Perfect. So instead of using "HOMES" to remember the names of the Great Lakes, we can just teach kids to remember "SHAME"
Tim Curry and Dolly Parton have taught us not only that you should be bigger, weirder, gayer, and freakier, but also that those qualities are what people will love about you. The things that make you strange and amazing are the things that will resonate with other strange and amazing people
Tim Curry had a small role in four episodes of Earth 2. No one saw the show besides me, but he was so incredibly good as a friendly, ingratiating, creepy astronaut / marooned criminal, frequently slowly grinning with a menacing, "Poppet..." An actor with incredible range and sincerity.
