The number of US students studying in China has fallen off a cliff since the pandemic. The implications are dire for improving mutual understanding and communication. The US-China Education Trust's excellent report puts forward several actionable recommendations to reverse this trend. 1/2

so while there are specific reasons for targeting this group, this is also a consequence of building a machine of mass repression and censorship *and* an internal political atmosphere that demands 'action' by officials lest they be accused of 'formalism'
