This is a big deal. Essentially a reversal of the US export control policy on advanced chips. Possibly decisive in the AI race. Compute is our main advantage — China has more power, engineers, and the entire edge layer — so by giving this up we increase the odds the world runs on Chinese AI.

China is winning the trade war. The Trump team helped them. Per the @wsj.com, the reason China massively escalated in the last 36 hours is because it believes Trump will fold - just as he did on magnets - without reaching for any US leverage in response.

The TikTok deal is looking like a complete surrender by the Trump team. And it may even be illegal. If true, the US will let Beijing determine what appears on the news feeds of 180 million US TikTok users. Not quite America first. Even advisors to the deal are renouncing it!
