I have a real issue with the misrepresentation I see regarding performance characteristics of older hardware. Everyone seems to have put on rose tinted glasses when discussing this topic and regularly misreprsent how things actually were. This is why showcasing vintage hardware is so important!

Any language learners had their native speech influenced by the it? People noted that I end sentences with “right?” a lot lately but it’s not intentional. I realized I spend a lot of time speaking with Japanese friends and that sort of softening of language is something you do a lot in Japanese.

If anything, seeing what's happening in this scene now sorta cements, in my mind, that my focus on original hardware and classic games is the best for my own enjoyment. The FGPA, emulation and decomp scene is becoming such a mess.

It really sucks when someone you were following for their work in the retro scene turns out to be big on AI and using it in all their projects. That instantly kills any and all interest in anything they ever make.

It also sucks when you want to discuss something interesting and people come out cursing and acting wildly aggressive for no reason. What the hell is wrong with modern discourse? It feels like everyone is on edge and ready to pounce on others in the most aggressive possible way. Really sucks.

The more things change, the more they stay the same… またアメリカが中東で戦争を始めたんだ I couldn’t tell you why I loaded up July on Sega Dreamcast but hey

Really pleased to discover that the DF Retro Super Show is actually doing quite well! I really appreciate everyone checking out the podcast as it's something I had wanted to do for years. I also need to do more proper DFR episodes, though, I know!

It’s kind of wild to consider that there were more than 21,000 games released on Steam in 2025 while only 1200 games ever released on PlayStation 1 in North America. 717 Super NES games released in the US. Just fascinating to think about.

It's interesting how, anecdotally amongst friends, the Sony announcement has killed their interest in buying anything for PlayStation 5 completely. Like, they just totally dropped it. Even folks that do not participate in online discourse. I'll be curious if this has any real impact in the long term

Adding a PC98 CEREB to my setup and it’s a curious machine with some noticeable differences compared to a normal IBM PC. Note how the Win 98 boot screen is high res unlike the lower res screen you normally would see.
