Rewatching the MCU to prep for “Doomsday”, and it really is an impressive stretch at the end of Phase I into Phase II. It’s just a real shame that, of the options here, the glib shallowness of “The First Avenger” ends up becoming the default mode for the franchise.

Had a great time with “The End of Oak Street”, which essentially asks “what if seventies/eighties Spielberg made Jurassic Park?” Reminded me a lot of Jeff Nichols’ “Midnight Special” as a thoughtful modern take on the classic Amblin template.

Delighted to see that Grant Morrison and Liam Sharp's "Green Lantern" is getting an omnibus next year. One of the great undersung runs of the past decade, with beautiful art from Sharp and Morrison at their most introspective, exploring their own nostalgia.

A trip down memory lane. That time I happened to be standing next to Ralph Feinnes, but the newspaper made it sound like we were headlining a gritty BBC cop show together.

A 1955 press advert for Tolkien’s “The Return of the King”, the then-newly released final volume of The Lord Of The Rings. As you can see from the page of October 27th 1955’s Listener it appeared on 👇 👇 👇 it’s an amazingly tiny ad, and it gives away the end of the tale too! It was a different time.

Rewatching Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man." I do honestly think it's a problem that few modern superhero movies - outside of the "Batman" franchises - are willing to let their protagonists be as unlikeable as Tobey Maguire's (generally very likeable!) Peter can be.
