#TodayinHistory #dataviz #Onthisday #OTD 📊 🎂Aug 04, 1834 John Venn born in Hull, England 🇬🇧 1880: The Venn diagram, a visual representation of logical propositions and relations, often used for showing overlaps among sets.
This book by Kang Wu is all about #tidyplots 🤩 It’s packed with beautiful example plots and their code. Kang really pushes #tidyplots to its limits—and sometimes even beyond 😂 tidyplots-book.pages.dev @wukang.bsky.social #rstats #dataviz #phd
#rstats My take: rownames(df) was the original mechanism for labeling obs. All base R knew this, so plot(lm(y~x, data=df)) did the right thing (outliers, influence plot) for obs. deserving to be noticed. tidyverse changed that, perhaps rightly so, but the auto-labeling aspect was largely lost.
so anyone use the rownames attribute often in #rstats? curious if there are any advantages or conveniences that this attribute brings?
#TodayinHistory #dataviz #Onthisday #OTD 📊 📅 Today is PIE CHART DAY! Jul 30, 1801 William Playfair introduced the pie chart But not the way we use them today. It was to solve a problem depicting the population of the Turkish empire, shaded by continent, requiring 3 segments.

Strong claim here: "Ordinal models are virtually as efficient as parametric ones even when parametric model assumptions are met" What's not to like?: "In a CPM there are as many intercepts as there are distinct y-values, less one. " This deserves some serious study 👍
Another new blog article, elaborating on ordinal regression within the cumulative probability model family. One general model contains an amazing array of special cases used all the time. Do we need to keep teaching special cases&assuming so much? www.fharrell.com/post/cpm/ #Statistics #StatsSky

Should we start to worry about DAG-hacking?
Drawing principled DAGs is a fundamental part of the observational research process. It is nonsensical for funders to expect to see the 'final DAG' or the 'final list of confounders' before a research project has been funded. By all means ask about the DAG design process. But not the final DAG!
