My family and I are on our second road trip this summer. This time to Belding Michigan for a huge family reunion.

Does anyone know what kind of trees are burning in these Canadian wildfires? The odor here in Maryland has a bit of chlorine tang in it.
As a teen, I would climb this tree and I thought I was too old for that now. But look at me! I'm all the way to the top!
I'm going to start Wordle with DHOOP today. I've just got a hunch.
For the past three days I've been trying to modify this build process to enable the WiFi interface on this dev board. And FINALLY, I had another breakthrough and got it working. (More details in the responses.)
Breakthrough! After a few days of struggling, I got a PYNQ build to boot on a Snickerdoodle One. This post is too hyper-specific for anyone to get, but I'm too happy to just let it go unannounced. :-)

I've been working on a little robotics project and a Rust driver for the LX-16A servo the last couple days. And I wrote a little article about progress so far if you're interested: daveofthings.github.io/blog/LX-16A-...
A Rust driver for the LX-16A Servo
Introduction There’s this adage that once you get Rust code to compile, it works. That actually happened to me as I was toying with a new driver for the LX-16A Bus Servo. I was working on hobby pro...

Ok, here's two black holes, but I need them back by the weekend....

A Great Crested Flycatcher? First time I've seen one.
I'm excited for Rocky Mountain RepRap Festival #rmrrf this weekend. Who here on bluesky is planning to attend?
Ooh, irresistible.

Since December I've been working with the Xilinx Zynq platform and trying to get the PYNQ Python/Jupyter environment working. But, wow, it's just been one roadblock after another hitting version restrictions with Vitis, Vivado, PetaLinux, Yocto and PYNQ. (more)
This is the fifth time I've run this particular CNC job with no issues but this time the bit breaks? Never trust a CNC machine.
This 5-year old Makita router that I use on my CNC has never had any maintenance. Today I want to try and replace the brushes and bearings. Old vs new brushes pictures.
The odds are stacked against me already so you might as well donate to MPLS rent relief and use the receipts to win the knit mittens, too.
We are $27 short of having donated $4,000 to mutual aid efforts in Minneapolis. 😭♥️ C'mon you know you want these mittens! It's the end of the month! Help my neighbors pay rent!!! Here's one place. Lots more at standWithMinnesota.com chuffed.org/project/1671...
I'd like to start documenting some personal projects so I'm wondering where people create such blogs these days. Any recommendations?
It's so hard to say or do anything productive today.
I remember 1976, the USAs bicentennial. I did the math and figured I'd probably live to 2026 and America's 250th birthday. Well, I made it but ... things feel off.
I said goodbye to 2025 by marking every Discord server as read. There's no turning back now.
At the end of the workday yesterday, I was downloading a software package, estimated to take 7.5 hours. This morning it reports a failure and I'm now starting over. Oof.
The new leaf I'm hoping to turn over in the new year is to share more electronics and programming projects. I feel like having a portfolio of shared work will be very helpful. But I didn't get this started over the holiday as I wanted to. Maybe just posting my intentions will help?
Articles of Impeachment would pass today as easily as the Epstein Bill. Do It.
If you don't follow @oddjayy.bsky.social, I recommend him. Especially if you like robotics and mechatronics.
Trying to upload more here since a friend of mine seems to like it very much. Here is a test video of my latest robotic project #maker #robot
