I first heard of this place 4 years ago from a friend and today I finally was able to eat at Gokan in Ikebukuro. The soup was so packed with chicken flavor and the wontons and chashu really complemented it well. It was very salty but not overly so. I need to learn to make a soup like this at home.

Just ate at the curry shop owned by Kaz Ayabe of Boku no Natsuyasumi fame and it was delicious! @kohler.bsky.social next TGS it’s well worth a trip to Ikebukuro to try it.
Yesterday I finished the second leg of my #ShimanamiKaido cycling trip after spending the night in Setoda. I experimented with filming parts of the ride, and I thought it was fun to watch them back so I sped it all up and cut it together. Maybe this will get someone else interested. #Japan #Cycling

Took a nice little day trip to Niigata yesterday to see one of my favorite Japanese bands, Hey-Smith. I even somehow found some time to visit the hard off and found a copy of Bubble Bobble and got some good wakame yakisoba at the station. The vacation part of my trip is off to a good start!
There’s a ramen festival right near my Airbnb in Nakano. There was a very interesting collab between the chef behind Ramen Feel, a legendary shio ramen shop, and Pickerel from Rhode Island doing a clam shio with Rhode Island clams. I feel so lucky to have been able to try this limited ramen tasting!
I had an hour before dinner and decided to check out a local coffee shop. The owner was super friendly and chatted with me in simple Japanese for nearly an hour, giving me some great recs for where to buy nice green tea from her home prefecture of Fukuoka. Please visit if you’re in Ginza! #日本語勉強
Went to one of the top rated burger places in Tokyo. Got the “folky smoky” burger with avocado and jalapeño. Insanely good! On top of the beef patty there was BBQ pulled beef as well. Very smoky and spicy. If I could get this in the US I’d go here all the time.
Went to Hachioji to check out the hard off there. Didn’t end up buying anything but ate some delicious niboshi shoyu ramen. This shop was a true one-man operation. A single dude cooking the noodles, cutting the chashu, warming the soup, washing dishes everything! This is my life goal to be like him
It’s been a couple years since I last tried Tokyo pizza and I wanted to sample something different. Found this amazing place that serves both Japanese and Italian fusion cuisine plus Neapolitan style pizzas. I got the half margherita with prosciutto and half mackerel and niboshi with avocado base.
Really neat find at the BEEP in Akihabara: a Katamari Damacy demo disc for PS2. No idea if this was a good price or a ripoff, but I’ve never seen it before and I’m happy to add it to my list of Katamari memorabilia at home.
This aired just the once in 1998 on the live SNL show for which McKay wrote it. It was effectively banned as it never aired again. I wonder why. MEDIA-OPOLY
I keep finding new tsukemen shops that change my conception of what ramen can be. This place does shrimp tsukemen that was so insanely packed with seafood flavor but then adorned it with things like cabbage and mozzarella in the soup. They recommended finishing the soup with pesto rice which I tried
The typhoon is dumping buckets of rain on Tokyo but it’s actually incredibly pleasant to sit outside under and umbrella. We found a nice microbrewery in Shinjuku to hang out and stay dry.
Did not expect a Crazy Taxi / Ichiran collab to be something I would see at TGS
ただいま! I’m back in Japan for #TGS2026 #TokyoGameShow so you better believe the first thing I did after dropping my bags off was get some ramen. Sadly this place had sold out of the tsukemen but their shio ramen was amazing! The seafood flavors you find in soup here just don’t exist in US ramen shops

Leading up to last year's TGS, I've been trying to make daily Japanese study into a habit. Today I finally reached my first ever 365 day streak on @bunprosrs.bsky.social I feel like my Japanese is improving, but I'm excited to see if I can notice a difference when I go back to Tokyo next month.

Working on games like this is the dream when doing retro game ports. Like most people experiencing the game today, I had never heard of it until we started work on the project, and I instantly felt it was a hidden gem. I am thrilled that a new community is discovering and loving it, as it deserves.
Happy Geppy-X Launch Day, this is probably the most important game release of the year store.steampowered.com/app/4120310/...
More ramenposting. I made tsukemen using leftover soup and chashu from earlier. I will certainly be making it again! Probably the best ramen dish I’ve ever cooked. The soup consistency was exactly what I imagined as I was making it. 10/10
Haven’t made ramen in a minute. Made the soup, tare, eggs, menma, and chashu from scratch. I did buy the noodles though. Broth was not clear like I hoped but the flavor was excellent.
Many people in the community asked for this feature, so we made it happen! You can toggle between the original and high def versions of the movies in case you want to witness the animation exactly as it was on the PS1 in all its 15 fps glory!!!

Exciting news! Implicit Conversions is joining the @atari.com family. You can read a letter from Bill and a small Q&A here: www.implicitconversions.com/blog/implici... Our mission to bring retro games to modern consoles isn’t changing, and this brings even more opportunities to realize that vision
Very cool to see so much interest in this game from the press. Lots of neat stories in this interview that I haven’t seen anywhere else in English speaking media.
