Won’t be getting to these for a bit but excited to try some Robert Littell and always good to have Mick Herron and @sarahweinman.com in the house.
Spent the weekend in Cape May. Had a very Spenser breakfast: two old fashioned donuts and a coffee.
The fine folks @hillnadell.bsky.social and Open Road Media (like @dzhyde.bsky.social) have informed me that my favorite of my novels, AN EMPTY HELL, is on sale for $2.99!!!! openroadmedia.com/ebook/an-emp...

Yesterday, was the 19th anniversary of WHEN ONE MAN DIES pub date. It was my debut novel. In year 20, big things are coming for Jackson Donne.
And if we are talking all time MacGyver was better than all these shows. No one on these shows caught fish with gum wrappers.
I choose Better Call Saul over Mad Men The Wire over Better Call Saul Breaking Bad over The Wire Slow horses and Justified were underrated. BUT IT IS ALL OPINION

This was flat out one of the best Bond novels I read. Up there with the best of Fleming. I enjoyed the heck out of it, surprising to me as I didn’t like his first one…
Thing I just learned on something the kid is watching: the world’s most foremost expert on bed bugs works at Rutgers.
I saw some great friends I haven’t seen in a long, long time tonight and it was great.
The best part of these influencers dancing in Times Square is when a normal New Yorker walks by and rolls their eyes HARD.
Third consecutive year of running the SAX 4 miler. Finished in 38:39, which is 7 seconds slower than last year but still fast for me (my first mile was at a 9:09 pace). But not compared to these two speed demons. The hills in this race are brutal, but we finished!
Favorite Bond Opening Gambits: Skyfall: "Take the bloody shot." The Living Daylights: "Hang on, you're dead!" Goldfinger: "Shocking. Positively shocking." Tomorrow Never Dies: "What's he doing?" "His Job." For Your Eyes Only: "I trust you had a pleasant "fright"!"
AN EMPTY HELL is 99 cents and was a Kindle Daily Deal over the weekend, per @dzhyde.bsky.social www.amazon.com/Empty-Hell-J...

I feel like I should warn people that I may or may not see this weekend, Whom I also haven’t seen in a decade, that my hair has gone pretty gray.
My favorite person is the person who makes a deal on Facebook marketplace, sees the price and then shows up and goes “Oh I only have 19 dollars.”
There‘s been a lot of good crime fiction reflecting the tragedy of 9/11, with ABSENT FRIENDS by SJ Rozan and SMALL TOWN by Lawrence Block being my favorite novel, but by far my favorite 9/11 crime fiction story is CLOSURE by @davewhite.bsky.social thrillingdetective.com/2023/04/01/c...

My thoughts are with Coach Pikes, his family and the team. One of the nicest guys I’ve met at Rutgers and a good coach to boot. You got this, Coach!
Steve Pikiell announced he’s being treated for cancer and his intention to coach this season with Brandin Knight leading when he’s absent. I’ve added a bit of context: www.app.com/story/sports...
Social media did not exist the last time they cast a new Bond. Rutgers football in crisis. I may need my phone locked away from me the next few weeks.
Wondering about SET ON BLOOD? According to my editors, it’s very quippy and funny for a dark thriller.
I hate being lectured online, so I don’t intend this to be a lecture, but a reflection. Thinking out loud if you will. Sometime in the next year, I will have a new book out. It will be my 7th book published in 20 years. (I know when I just can’t tell you yet. What’s an author without a vague post)

When someone writes a thriller that should move at a breakneck pace, they should write it to move that fast. I remember, whatever you think of the Reacher novels, I could read those in 2 days because they were designed to move.
