The biggest mastodon instance is getting hit with DDoS this morning, but as a fedi user, you would hardly notice. There are still plenty of posts from this instance federating around during the downtime and the feed is running fairly normal. Yes, it’s insufferable but also resilient AF.

Our team received a report of intermittent app outages at about 11:40pm PDT on April 15, 2026. They worked through the night to mitigate a sophisticated Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack, which intensified throughout the day.
The same reason why Bluesky is vulnerable to outages is the same reason why Bluesky provides *reach* whereas Mastodon is vulnerable to valid criticism because its architecture does not provide the same *reach* but it is invincible to network outages for that reason. It’s a paradox.
Every time Bluesky goes down Mastodon stays up. Just saying.

This is one reason why I suspect that slopulism of all types structurally tends toward being at least antisemitism-adjacent, even when the individual political elites who are pushing it are not themselves antisemitic. (Some of them might even be Jews.)
Joel S.@joelhs.bsky.social · 4mo agoAntisemitism is structurally necessary for Elon Musk's politics, because he wants to brand himself as the insurgent populist fighting the elite, but as the world's wealthiest person, he needs a definition of "elite" that is not strictly rooted in wealth or corporate ownership.
I am broken-hearted at the terrible news that my alma mater, @hampshirecollege.bsky.social, after 56 yrs, is closing. Its death is a victory for conformism, for corporatism, for higher education's dull love of hierarchy & status. It's a grievous defeat for imagination & experimentation.

The obvious answer here is that the student protest movement was broadly smeared as anti-semitic and aligned with terrorists, and a variety of institutions from government, media and the universities acted as if that smear was true, threatening, suspending, expelling and even deporting students.
