I'm especially sad and lonely today for personal reasons that I probably shouldn't go into, but there were SEVEN Eastern Spinebills in the backyard and that was nice. #birds

I stood still in my garden for over an hour today photographing Eastern Spinebills in our cherry tree. #birds

Photograph of an Eastern Spinebill in a cherry tree drinking from a bright pink flower. The bird is a small honeyeater in black, white, grey, rust, and fawn, with bright red eyes and a long, curved bill. It is hanging upside down as it drinks, but has one eye facing the viewer (and hilighted by the sun). This Spinebill is most likely a male judging by the subtle blue/green irridescent feathers on the crown of its black head.

Same subjects, but a different different Spinebill in a different part of the tree. This bird is perched on a bare branch and looking about, searching for danger (or insects to snack on, maybe?). This bird is most likely a female, judging by the duller grey/brown feathers on its crown.

Same subjects, different angle and possibly a different Spinebill again (I counted at least three, but they were hard to keep track of). Possibly another male, but the irridescence is hard to see at this angle. It is close enough to the viewer that there's a noticeably shallow depth of field with the bird's bright red eye as the focal point.

I think Striated Thornbills might be my favourite LBBs (Little Brown Birds). Of course, like most LBBs, they're actually so much more than just "brown" when you take a proper look at them. #birds

Superb Fairy-wren. #birds
